I started work on the E-Mediat project over a year ago. The project is being managed by IIE and builds on a highly successful program launched in the Middle East five years ago, Women in Technology. It is sponsored by MEPI, US Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative and as part of Civil Society 2.0.

The attacks were claimed by the Islamist, Iran-backed Houthi rebel group, which currently controls large portions of nearby Yemen and is fighting a coalition of forces supported by Arab countries including the UAE. The UAE withdrew its forces from Yemen in 2019, but continues to supply and train local militia opposed to the Houthi.

I’ve been working on this project for more than year. This conference showcased the impressive work of the participant NGOs as well as introduced to them more advanced social media topics such as content curation, measurement, and integrated content strategy.

Last week, I participated in three very intense days of project, curriculum, and online community planning for a new project, E-Mediat , a multi-stakeholder capacity building project for NGOS and Social Media in the Middle East. Multi-stakeholder projects with many organizations, people, and roles are complex.
E-Mediat is working with more than 220 NGOs in Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, and Yemen. Rami Al-Karmi, a serial technology entrepreneur , is the visionary behind this project. Rami has based this program on the ideas in the Lean Start Up model and translated the concept for the Arab World.
Building a solid core, participants can use social media tools to easily connect NGOS with new people who have knowledge, resources, and ideas to share to help with the project goals. I exchange useful information with this person on a regular basis, but I have not worked with them on a project.

Like many folks, I personally fell in love with a particular design that Alpha put out months ago — it was the Jax, I fell in love with the Jax — and at that particular time, I was working on an online event that was meant to serve as a humanitarian effort to raise awareness on the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
