The combination of Sony’s trademark 21:9 aspect ratio with a slightly smaller 6.1-inch Given Sony’s photography ambitions for the 5 II, I’ll allow it the physical shutter control, but the Google Assistant button feels unnecessary — especially in a position that’s too low to be convenient to press.
The 16:10 aspect ratio gives you an extra bit of vertical space, in addition to space on the sides. percent screen-to-body ratio, which Dell says is higher than any competitors. Our review unit, currently going for $2,393, has an eight-core Core i7-10875H, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max Q, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD.
My $799 review unit has the Ryzen 5-4500U, along with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. A big part of that is the display: the 2020 Envy has an 88 percent screen-to-body ratio, compared to 79 percent on last year’s model. Reviews of budget and midrange laptops are often a question of what you’re trading off for that lower price point.
It’s kept the same 90 percent screen-to-body ratio.). Microsoft’s Surface devices have been using the 3:2 aspect ratio for years, and I’m glad that the Spectre line is finally making the switch. I’ve reached out to HP to see what’s up and will update this review if it turns out to be a bug. (Of I have almost no complaints.
A 2020 standout, a 2021 question mark This is an easy review. It’s identical to the Dell XPS 13 9300, which I reviewed back in April , in every way, except one: it has Intel’s new 11th Gen Tiger Lake processors. percent screen-to-body ratio, which gives you more vertical space than most consumer laptops (which are 16:9).
In this review I’m looking at the Summit Series , which is MSI’s attempt to enter the same space. Additionally, it uses a 16:9 aspect ratio, which is falling out of fashion among premium business laptops for a reason — it’s cramped for multitasking purposes. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge.
It has a big screen with a high refresh rate, a tall aspect ratio that might make it easier for people with smaller hands to use, and OnePlus’ light-touch take on Android. Somewhat unusually, the N10 5G offers a very tall 20:9 aspect ratio on its screen. Photography by Allison Johnson. Not a bad deal at all.
Dell has finally released an OLED version of its XPS 13 , and I’m typing this review on it right now. Nothing else about this XPS is new: it has the same thin and light build, the same tiny bezels and webcam, the same glass-fiber palm rests, and the same 16:10 aspect ratio as the past couple Dell XPS 13s I’ve reviewed.
It’s a nice change of pace to my overall approach that I wasn’t expecting when I started my review. And as much as I praised the improvements here, you still have to be aware of the limitations of smaller sensors when it comes to noise-to-pixel density ratio, low light performance, and dynamic range. Video on the DJI Mini 2.
If you’re looking for an affordable Netflix machine, the Spin is a great candidate — especially given its movie-friendly 16:9 aspect ratio. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. It delivers a crisp picture, and it gets bright enough for even some outdoor use (if you’re in the shade). Oh, and it even has USI stylus support.
You can change the screen ratio of the front screen, what information it displays, or toggle it on and off in the Hero 9’s menu. Also, when editing our review video in 4K, I really enjoyed having the bit of extra space for reframing. Photography by Becca Farsace / The Verge. We regret the error.
Its 20:9 aspect ratio is a hair taller than the S22 Plus and Pixel 6 Pro’s displays, and it matches their top refresh rate of 120Hz. That’s not the case with the 10 Pro, though I will qualify that claim by saying that, since I’m on Verizon, I wasn’t able to test it on 5G for this review. Photography by Allison Johnson / The Verge.
I went into this review with two main questions: does the 1165G7 beat its Intel predecessor (the 1065G7, which powers the most recent Dell XPS 13 ) and does it beat AMD’s Ryzen 7 4800U (part of Lenovo’s IdeaPad Slim 7 )? Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. The UX425 is light for a 14-inch laptop at 2.49 inches (13.72mm).
These devices look and feel pretty similar to the Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360 models we reviewed last year. Unfortunately, all of these devices still have the cursed 16:9 aspect ratio, which many other premium lines have moved away from this year. Photography by Monica Chin. pounds and 0.44 inches thick.
Starting with what’s new: the 16:10 aspect ratio is here. inches wide, where the Gen 5’s ( much maligned by reviewers for its small size) was just four. The X1 Yoga’s 16:10 aspect ratio is certainly a bonus, as are the lack of bloatware and the matte display. Photography by Monica Chin. No fingerprints here.
The panel has a 2560 x 1600 resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio — so not only is it wide, but you get an extra bit of vertical space compared to many popular laptops. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. It’s hard to put into words just how big a 17-inch screen is. If that’s not you, there are better options.
If you have a terrible attention span during movies, it’s also good for scrolling through Twitter or checking IMDb to figure out what TV show that actor was in while watching Netflix, although the second small display is hard to use for any overly complex tasks due to its size and nearly square aspect ratio.
Remarkable tech for a steep price This laptop was a pain in the neck to review. The Latitude is also 16:9 with 1920 x 1080 resolution; I’m surprised not to see a 4K option at this price, and the 16:9 aspect ratio can be cramped when it comes to multitasking in multiple windows. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge.
But my favorite aspect of this display (and of this Chromebook as a whole) is the 3:2 aspect ratio. My review model is $699.99 Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. Though the screen is glossy, I rarely saw glare, and what I did see didn’t hinder my work. A tiny bit of screen wobble, but I’ve seen much worse.
Like my colleague Sean Hollister noted in his review of last year’s model , games can still look warped around the edges in this 32:9 aspect ratio screen. Photography by Cameron Faulkner / The Verge. The Odyssey Neo G9 also features one DisplayPort 1.4 port with adaptive sync, along with a headphone jack and two USB 3.0
Its 16:9 aspect ratio display feels cramped, and its keys are spaced a little too far apart. Both of these models also have displays with a more generous aspect ratio than the Element Lite, which is a boon for productivity work. inch, 1080p touchscreen with a 60Hz refresh rate and a 16:9 aspect ratio. It’s also too expensive.
Another highlight is the 16:10 aspect ratio, which gives the QHD screen extra vertical space. percent screen-to-body ratio. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. Dell also says that Optimizer will direct your bandwidth to videoconferencing applications while they’re in use. It’s a good package for meetings overall.
Acer claims an 84 percent screen-to-body ratio, a slight improvement from the Swift 3 I reviewed earlier this year (82.73 Second: the screen, because that was a significant weakness of the Acer Swift 3 I reviewed earlier this year. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. This is the “safari gold” model.
My only gripe with either display is that they have 16:10 aspect ratios and therefore a much smaller surface area than their iPad Pro counterparts. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge. This isn’t a problem when you’re watching movies or YouTube, but when it comes time to get work done, the Tab S7 models feel cramped.
And I’m not a fan of its 16:9 aspect ratio — Chromebooks that use 3:2 or 16:10 displays are able to cram noticeably more screen real estate into a smaller chassis. My Flex 5 review unit has an Intel Core i3-10110U, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of eMMC storage. Many of the sentences in this review have had “but” at the end.
inch screen is cramped for a desktop OS like Chrome OS (though it is bright enough to use outdoors, and I appreciate that it has a 16:10 aspect ratio — 16:9 would be unbearable for me at this size). Oh look, a port! On the other hand, a 10.5-inch But it was too small for me to comfortably use as a work driver.
And let’s get this out of the way: it is the best consumer drone for video and photography you can buy right now. It is also a 4:3 sensor, which means your photos are no longer in 3:2 aspect ratio. Both drones shoot 20MP photos, but in a 4:3 aspect ratio, not 3:2 as before. But that doesn’t mean it’s the drone for everyone.
Nowadays, churches often have their own volunteer or hired photography team to record and capture imagery at events or services. Consider what daily activities you’ll be doing with the children, and be as detailed as possible for parents to review and confidently sign off. Let’s jump into the four times your church should use waivers.
The cream-colored review unit I have has a unique retro appeal, and its aluminum side rails and hinge have a soft, matte finish to them. The Flip 3’s 9:22 aspect ratio is taller than most phones, but other than that, it works just like any other modern smartphone. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge.
A few months ago, Lenovo told me that much of its portfolio would be moving to the 16:10 aspect ratio this year. The cramped 16:9 screen was one of my few complaints about the last X1 Extreme I reviewed , so this is a big improvement in my book. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. They appear to be keeping their word.
The ZenFone 8 may be small, but that hasn’t kept it from offering the latest flagship processor: a Snapdragon 888 chipset, coupled with 6, 8, or 16GB of RAM (my review unit has 16GB). The display’s 20:9 aspect ratio was carefully considered by Asus. Photography by Allison Johnson / The Verge. Asus ZenFone 8 screen and design.
inch screen has a respectable 83 percent screen-to-body ratio. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. The design has matured since 2018 as well — for a refresh, the EVO doesn’t look at all out of date. The bezels are much smaller, particularly those on the sides.
Thanks to its rounded corners and sloped edges, the G Pure is comfortable to hold for long stretches, though it’s a bit tall (the screen has a 20:9 aspect ratio) to use single-handed for my small hands. Photography by Gloria Sin / The Verge. For a big phone with a 6.5-inch inch thick and weighing 0.41lbs.
Inside of LG’s sole $1,799 Gram 17 configuration (it’s been available for $1,699 since late March), there’s now an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 quad-core processor that promises — and actually delivers — better performance and longer battery life than the 2020 model my colleague Monica Chin reviewed. Photography by Cameron Faulkner / The Verge.
It’s not perfect, but it’s practical Recently, I’ve reviewed a large number of Chromebooks aimed at students. The display on my review unit is a 300-nit 1920 x 1080 IPS panel. It does have the cramped 16:9 aspect ratio, something I’ve been glad to see other ThinkPads shifting away from this year.
Meanwhile, computational photography is great, but there’s only so much it can do — stacking a few images to get better dynamic range or depth information is good, but you reach a point of diminishing returns pretty quickly. Unfortunately, sensors can’t get much bigger because they’d need bigger lenses to match.
Our reviews generally leave extensive synthetic benchmarking to others — but the Slim 7 has been blowing Intel systems out of the water on those as well and coming close to Intel’s H-series Core i9 in multi-threaded performance. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. The one area the Slim 7 ran into trouble was video editing.
Like the Surface Pro line, the X12 has a 3:2 aspect ratio, which is my favorite aspect ratio (yes, I have a favorite). So I was pleasantly surprised to see how long it lasted — especially since the X1 Fold, the last ThinkPad-branded tablet I reviewed, averaged under five hours to a charge. Fn + Space toggles the backlighting.
The tablet’s relatively small screen and widescreen aspect ratio also make things quite small to work with when you have two apps open. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge. I was able to pull up the Office app and a browser window at the same time, but in order to create a new Word doc, I had to exit the split-screen mode.
The Xperia 1 III’s screen stands out among its fellow flagships both in terms of its slimmer 21:9 aspect ratio and its higher 1644 x 3840 resolution, which Sony calls 4K (it’s close). Dieter was a fan of the Xperia 1 II’s look when he reviewed it , and I’m in agreement about the III: it’s a sophisticated, understated design and I dig it.
As a huge 4:3 ratio fan, this makes me very sad, especially considering how many pixels are not being used with the 16:9 crop. Tune into our video review of the 907X for a sample video shot. Photography by Becca Farsace / The Verge. Unedited JPEGs from the Hasselblad 907X 50C. The camera also crops the image to 16:9.
Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. The screen is 16:9, which is a cramped aspect ratio for multitasking. We’re looking forward to reviewing its successor, the Yoga 7i , shortly in the future. We hope to add more Windows laptops under $500 to this page in the future and are keeping a close eye on those releases.

inch screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio. In fact, my review unit clattered on to my hardwood floor enough times that it eventually developed a crack on the rear glass. Instead of fighting a losing computational photography battle against other smartphones, Sony is taking the fight back to its home turf: the Alpha camera line.
