Apple rates the 16e for 26 hours of video playback, compared to 22 on the 16. Here's why. Here's how that all shakes out.
They’ve got a faster A15 Bionic chip, three all-new cameras, and an improved display with up to a 120Hz ProMotion high refresh rate that can go as bright as 1,000 nits. The Super Retina XDR displays on both models support variable refresh rates of between 10Hz and 120Hz, and are the same size as last year at 6.1
Note: Because of the way Fitbit structured the embargo on reviews, I had far less time to test than would be ideal for this kind of device (just five days). We may update this review down the road if longer-duration testing proves to garner important insights. The Sense boasts improved heart rate tracking with its PurePulse 2.0
Given Sony’s photography ambitions for the 5 II, I’ll allow it the physical shutter control, but the Google Assistant button feels unnecessary — especially in a position that’s too low to be convenient to press. Sony’s approach to smartphone photography is twofold. The pro photography mode gives you a wealth of controls.
In this piece I’m reviewing the one in the middle: the brand-new, but not really new inside, Apple Watch SE. Ion-X glass is tough, but it’s definitely more prone to scratches and breaking — in fact, I dropped the SE about four feet onto a tile floor during my review period and shattered the top left corner of the screen.
Our review unit, currently going for $2,393, has an eight-core Core i7-10875H, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max Q, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. The XPS 17 isn’t a gaming laptop (no high refresh-rate screen options, for one) and given that, the gaming results were decent but not mind-blowing. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge.
inch curved OLED display, featuring a resolution of 2,800 x 1,260 and supporting an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120Hz. While flare is commonly seen in camera and smartphone photography, its occurrence during everyday use is rare and typically happens under specific lighting conditions. It is equipped with a 6.78-inch
One thing Apple would not tell me is how resistant this stainless steel frame is to nicks and scratches… and we’ve already put a tiny nick in the frame of our review unit, even though all it’s really done is travel from video shoot to video shoot. Indeed, Apple’s own iPad Pro has a ProMotion high refresh rate display.
Nilay Patel is reviewing the iPhone 12 Pro separately, here. I can’t test that with our review unit (at least, not intentionally), but I did have a totally accidental drop to concrete from three feet that stopped my heart but only put a barely perceptible ding in the aluminum. One last word about charging while we’re on the subject.
It’s not a constant source of frustration, but it happens with more frequency than other earbuds I’ve reviewed lately. For one, they’re only rated IPX2 for water and sweat resistance, which is less durable than wireless earbuds from other manufacturers in 2020. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
This year, the company simply pointed out that it supports an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz at its native 3200 x 1440 resolution and left it at that. Samsung says it is utilizing the extra features in this chip to improve image processing and add the variable refresh rate (which runs from 10Hz up to 120Hz) at full resolution.
This is all while taking advantage of ray tracing and Nvidia’s special AI-powered DLSS tech that boosts frame rates while maintaining image quality. I’ve been testing the RTX 3080 on the same machine I used for the RTX 2080 review two years ago. Nvidia had similar promises before for 4K gaming with the RTX 2080. 4K testing.
It has a standard 60Hz refresh rate, a disappointment on a phone of this class. There’s a “Motion Blur Reduction” option that’s supposed to make it feel more like a 90Hz display, but it doesn’t hold up to true high refresh rate options like the Samsung Galaxy S20 or Pixel 4. The OLED display measures 3840 x 1644 pixels.
The oval charging case is mercifully way smaller than the giant one that holds the Powerbeats Pro, and the red color of my review unit is quite eye-catching. Battery life is rated at around five hours with noise cancellation active or eight without, and the case can provide two additional top-offs.
My review board came equipped with standard Red switches. The other gaming feature here is an advertised polling rate of 8,000Hz, which is eight times higher than the 1,000Hz rate used by most keyboards. You enable the 8,000Hz polling rate from within Corsair’s software. Photography by Jon Porter / The Verge.
Topping it off, it has a 1080p display with a 300Hz refresh rate. Pricing for the Blade 15 Advanced starts at $2,599, and that price will get you the same processor and 300Hz refresh rate display but with the Nvidia RTX 2070 Super Max-Q, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB NVMe SSD. This is great laptop for doing other tasks unrelated to gaming.
It features stainless steel instead of aluminum, metal pushers instead of plastic, Gorilla Glass DX on top of the display, an 810G mil spec durability rating, and 5ATM of water resistance. The back of the Watch 3 has a heart rate sensor. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge.
inch screen comes with a fast 120Hz refresh rate that’s scarce at this price point. The A52 5G is rated IP67 waterproof for some extra peace of mind. Plus, it offers all of the velvety smoothness that comes with its 120Hz refresh rate. That hit rate goes down significantly outside in bright light. In this economy!
There’s not much give, but they feel rugged to me, and they’ve got an IPX4 water and sweat resistance rating, so if you get caught running or biking in the rain, they’ll survive. The frames have an IPX4 rating for water and sweat resistance. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. Bose says the frame is made from “TR-90 nylon.”
The huge top and bottom bezels of the Fairphone 3 have been stripped away, and there are also modern conveniences like an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance. It feels like Fairphone has caught up with the rest of the smartphone industry, even if that’s because the rate of smartphone evolution has slowed.
It has a big screen with a high refresh rate, a tall aspect ratio that might make it easier for people with smaller hands to use, and OnePlus’ light-touch take on Android. This screen offers a 90Hz refresh rate that’s faster than the 60Hz typically seen at this price point. Photography by Allison Johnson. Not a bad deal at all.
Its processor stumbles with heavy tasks, that big screen lacks the resolution or faster refresh rate commonly found on high-end devices, and its cameras can’t compete with the best. The screen is a 1080 x 2400 LCD panel with a standard 60Hz refresh rate. Photography by Allison Johnson / The Verge.
And yes, it has a webcam, unlike some of the gaming laptops we’ve reviewed recently. Like my experience with MSI’s QHD screen, I’m surprised that Razer’s QHD 165Hz refresh rate panel is its first in a laptop because it’s a very good first effort. Photography by Cameron Faulkner / The Verge.
My Mi 11 review unit pairs the 888 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, though more expensive models have options for 12GB and 256GB, respectively. inch curved LTPO OLED panels with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 3200 x 1440 resolution, and a maximum brightness of 1,500 nits. Photography by Sam Byford / The Verge. Both are 6.8-inch
Unlike the 1000XM3s, the 1000XM4s have a proper IPX4 rating for water and sweat resistance, so you can confidently use them for workouts or in the rain without weighing their odds of survival. Sony is also beating Apple at bringing higher bit rate wireless audio to earbuds. The case supports Qi wireless charging.
Along with other speedy components like fast RAM, an NVMe SSD, and a 144Hz refresh rate display, this Dell gaming laptop undercuts and outruns the competition in its price range. The G5 15 SE can run almost any PC game at high settings with a relatively stable, smooth frame rate.
Samsung increased the refresh rate on the exterior display to 120Hz, so everything on it feels smooth; the main compromise when using it is that it’s just really hard to type on. inch display, which is bright, sharp, and has the same 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling with less of the “jelly effect” that plagued the earlier versions.
mph) with a continuous rated power above 250 watts is to be treated the same as a gas-guzzling moped. I wasn’t going to put my life at risk for this review by riding alongside heavy (and dangerous) automobiles just because European regulators can’t get their s**t together. It states that any e-bike that goes faster than 25 km/h (15.5
Building upon years of action camera knowledge, GoPro has finally mastered a hardware experience that never frustrated me, while sticking to software that, although takes a bit of getting used to, holds endless resolution and frame rate capabilities. There are endless frame rate and resolution settings to chose. We regret the error.
This monitor supports refresh rates up to 165Hz plus G-Sync, so it’s ideal for AMD’s latest card. I’ve been testing the 6800 XT with Acer’s 27-inch Nitro XV273K, a 4K monitor that offers up to 144Hz refresh rates, G-Sync, and HDR support. Photography by Tom Warren / The Verge. The Radeon RX 6800 XT exhausts heat out of the side.
The cure for the common gaming PC When we reviewed the $499 Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 , we called it the 1440p sweet spot. So what you’re about to read isn’t a typical graphics card review. If you take a close look at my performance chart above, you may notice that some of those frame rates seem a bit too low to play.
inch screen is a little taller than the competition and offers a fast 120Hz refresh rate. Its 20:9 aspect ratio is a hair taller than the S22 Plus and Pixel 6 Pro’s displays, and it matches their top refresh rate of 120Hz. Photography by Allison Johnson / The Verge. The review has been updated with this information.
The high refresh rate and lower resolution means that this panel is really meant for gaming — if you’re looking to do serious creative work, the latter screen is a better option. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. I tested the 300Hz configuration.
A solid 1440p card, but only entry-level 4K When I reviewed Nvidia’s RTX 3070 last year , I called it the sweet spot for 1440p gaming. Like all of Nvidia’s 30-series cards, the RTX 3070 Ti also supports ray tracing and AI-powered DLSS technology to improve frame rates and maintain image quality. 4K testing.
megapixel stacked CMOS sensor, an OLED viewfinder capable of 240fps refresh rate, and a mechanical shutter flash sync up to 1/400th of a second, all in a body that doesn’t look or feel that much different than any other Sony full-frame mirrorless camera. Photography by Becca Farsace / The Verge. The Alpha 1 is comprised of a 50.1-megapixel
They lack wireless charging, but the OnePlus Buds do pack some frills despite the low price: they’re rated IPX4 water resistant, so they can withstand sweat and some splashes of water. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. You’re getting a very solid set of earbuds for that $79 — if the fit is right.
Those frame rates are considerably below what you can expect from both XPS models, as well as plenty of much more affordable 14-inchers like Asus’ own ZenBook 14. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. On League of Legends , it averaged 85fps (to the 11th Gen XPS’s 205fps and the 10th Gen’s 160fps).
inch OLED with 120Hz refresh rate, with rich contrast and smooth animations. inch OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate, and it offers a good level of detail with 1080p resolution. With a healthy support policy and IP67 rating, the A53 5G should last for many years to come. Photography by Allison Johnson / The Verge.
The screen is a bit bigger this time around, there’s an IP rating for water resistance, and the battery gets a decent boost. It also uses a standard 60Hz refresh rate, so you don’t get the smoother scrolling experience of faster 90 or 120Hz rates. you don’t get the smoother scrolling experience of faster 90 or 120Hz rates.
Battery life for the Beats Flex is estimated at “up to 12 hours” of continuous listening, and that seems on point in my time reviewing them so far. Another thing to be aware of is that the Beats Flex aren’t rated for sweat or water resistance. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. Hands-free Siri isn’t present, either.
I wish this review could stop there. Take a look at the results in the chart below: As you can see, these frame rates are respectable. So if you’re looking to actually game on the go, rather than just do office work, think about whether you’d rather have one of those much more affordable devices with better frame rates.
The 60Hz screen means you won’t be able to see the impressive frame rates the new hardware is capable of, so many gamers may get a better experience out of a device with a higher refresh rate screen. With all sliders manually maxed, I had to drop to the medium preset in order to get a playable 4K frame rate of 46fps.
Battery life is rated at 6 hours with ANC enabled, which outlasts the 4.5-hour It’s a draw on sweat resistance, with both sets of earbuds rated IPX4. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. hour AirPods Pro. The case has enough extra juice for you to reach 20 hours of total listening time. grams compared to the 5.4-gram
That’s where I left it for portions of my review, and the earbuds did seem to dial back their noise-canceling powers when I was in my living room, where the only noise was the whirl of a nearby fan. It’s rated at up to five hours of straight playback with ANC on, and that extends to 23 hours including the case’s extra juice.
