Roku’s new $30 remote has upgrades like a rechargeable battery and hands-free voice commands Roku’s new Voice Remote Pro is the company’s first remote control to come with always-listening mics built in. Weight-wise, the Voice Remote Pro felt about the same in my hand as the remote that came with my TCL Roku TV. The new $29.99
It’s tactile and actually presses in instead of relying on capacitive touch sensors. I greatly prefer this approach since you won’t have to deal with accidental presses as often when adjusting the earbuds. The button only requires a light press, so you’re not constantly jamming the buds deeper into your ears.
A full look at what you’ll see when you press the orange Backbone button. Notably here, though, is that you can press and hold that button for a moment to bookmark key moments on the fly. Yet another software feature you’ll get with the controller is the ability to create parties and voice chat with friends in the app.
The Siri button has been pushed to the remote’s right side, almost guaranteeing that you’ll never unintentionally trigger Apple’s voice assistant. The Siri button is now on the side, where you’re less likely to press it accidentally. And now there’s a proper power button for your TV. Hey Siri, where’s my remote?”
Track controls are on the right earbud: tap once for pause / play, press twice to skip tracks, and three times to go back. Holding the right bud will summon your phone’s voice assistant. But voice call quality isn’t a strength for Sony’s entry-level buds, and the experience can be rough in noisy environments.
The tap controls work just like those on the Galaxy Buds Plus: single tap to pause, double to skip, three to go back, and you can customize what a long press does. With three total beamforming mics — two on the exterior and one inside — the Galaxy Buds Live have performed just fine during my Zoom meetings and voice calls.
One thing worth mentioning is the occlusion effect; since Bose didn’t go for a vented design like the AirPods Pro or Pixel Buds with natural airflow, if you have a very tight seal with the QuietComfort Earbuds in, your inside voice might sound louder than normal, and in silent environments, you can hear yourself breathing. And that’s it.
This makes for a compact, pocketable design, but the trade-off is that removing them from the case isn’t so simple: you’ve got to press down on the stem, which pushes up the main earbud portion, and then pluck that out of the case. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. Once you’ve done it a few times, you’ll have it down.
The earbud controls aren’t customizable, but Skullcandy packs in pretty much all of the functions you’d want (track skip / back, volume, voice assistant, and play / pause) into the large single button on each earbud. You can long-press either earbud for three seconds to switch back and forth between the two most recently paired devices.
Like the 14 Ultra before it, it looks like the 15 Ultra will be a photography powerhouse, with the phone rumored to feature a 1-inch main sensor and 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. For example, Nokia announced on February 25 that it's teaming up with Vodafone and RingCentral to "showcase [the] future of voice calls" at the event.
Long-press a notification in the conversations section, and you can choose between three options: Priority, Alerting, and Silent. You can still long-press a notification to quickly adjust how (or if) a notification appears. You get to it by long-pressing the power button. (In New media controls and screenshots.
From there, you can tell the Astro to go to a specific location either with a voice command or remotely through the app. Surrounding the telescoping pole are the far-field mics that are used to pick up voice commands. It can show you that the oven was left on, but it has no ability to press the buttons itself to turn it off.
You swipe across the right temple to raise or lower the volume, and on the underside of that temple is a small circular button that you can press to play / pause, double-tap to skip tracks, or triple-tap to go back. Voice calls while wearing the Tempos have also been a joy. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
And you also get a newer Alexa voice remote in the box with app shortcuts and a handy shortcut to live TV programming. Amazon bundles the latest version of its Alexa voice remote with the new streaming stick. You’ve still got to press and hold the Alexa button for voice searches or smart home commands.
When you press it with your finger, the watch vibrates, giving you the impression that you’ve pushed a button, even though nothing has physically moved. Unless you cover the entire button with your finger or thumb when pressing it, it won’t register, which leads to a lot of fiddling. Photography by Brent Rose for The Verge.
The company says this boosts the midrange and “lowers down part of the audio spectrum which is not on the voice human spectrum and can impact audibility of a voice.” It’s also designed to make it easier to hear voices when on video calls. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge.
The wing tip is flexible and pliable enough that it doesn’t press into the concha of your ear in an annoying way. Like the Studio Buds, these have a nice and clicky “b” button on each earbud with the usual control scheme: press once to play / pause / answer call, twice to skip to the next track, and three times to go back.
It doesn’t support Wi-Fi connectivity, and its microphone listens for changes in your environment’s acoustics to tweak its adaptive equalizer (you can customize it yourself if you’d prefer to), but there’s no support for voice commands here, which I frankly welcome. Since their design is now so similar, Apple carried over the “force sensor” controls from the AirPods Pro, with an indent on each stem that designates where to press. Apple’s non-remappable controls handle media playback, and you can summon Siri with a long press. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
There’s still a circular button on each earbud that responds to single, double, and triple presses. People said my voice was crisp and came through clear without much background noise. Unlike previous Jabra earbuds, the 85ts no longer offer Amazon Alexa as a voice assistant. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
Or perhaps it’s the inclusion of a voice assistant on your wrist that you can ask to do things without having to use your phone? The watch interface has a familiar layout: swipe down for settings, swipe up to see notifications, press the side button to see your apps. The OnePlus Watch also lacks a voice assistant.
The right earbud handles audio controls, while the left summons your preferred voice assistant. I really like that the buttons now take up the full outer surface of the earbuds, making them effortless to find and press. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. Jabra supports Amazon Alexa in addition to Siri or Google Assistant.)

While voice commands worked, it was easier to adjust the weights myself One of the first things I bought at the start of the pandemic was a set of adjustable dumbbells. The Roam supports hands-free voice commands, has Apple AirPlay 2, includes wireless charging, and features a rugged design that lets you use it practically anywhere. They’re easy to feel for and hard to press accidentally. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. On the back of the Roam is a USB-C port and power button.
The interface is no different from watchOS 7, which means there’s still the fiddly constellation of app icons when you press the crown, tap elements are rather small, and there’s a lot of text to read. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge. That trust and experience just come at a cost.
In addition to enabling Google Assistant, Siri, and Alexa voice control, I was able to define an automation in the Aqara app so that the lights will automatically turn off after 30 minutes whenever anyone is making a late-night snack and forgets to turn off the spots (teens!). Some models have voice control and integrated speakers and lighting. I unboxed the table at 5:30PM, pressed the power button, and. Photography by Thomas Ricker / The Verge. The Suntable isn’t nearly that ambitious. The sound might only be okay, but that’s probably enough for the spaces it’s meant to occupy.
The four microphones had no trouble picking up my voice, and they succeeded in making me audible above my loud typing and some assorted background noise. I’ve asked Dell for any other potential fixes, but didn’t hear back by press time.) Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. It’s premium technology for a premium price.

Given how every Android phone does something different on a long press of the power button, I hope this new system becomes an enforced standard. Emergency lockdown for temporarily disabling biometrics is there, too, but it’s sadly hidden under an extra button press. Photography by Dieter Bohn / The Verge.
Mic monitoring can be adjusted, and you can opt to let more of your voice come through in your headphones if you want, should they have a built-in mic, or you can mute the mic altogether. Hands-free Alexa voice commands still get top billing, but the most compelling thing about the Echo Buds is still their aggressive price — and the solid mix of features you get in exchange. But the flipside of this change means if you turn off ANC in the Alexa app (or with a voice command), you’re going to hear a fair mix of ambient noise.
