I write this twice-weekly newsletter on a tight deadline, so when I saw a press release that started with “Silicon Valley Bank, Santa Clara, California, was closed today,” I realized I might need to pivot. No one can predict the follow-on effects of a moment like this. We are in uncharted territory.

It’s tactile and actually presses in instead of relying on capacitive touch sensors. I greatly prefer this approach since you won’t have to deal with accidental presses as often when adjusting the earbuds. The button only requires a light press, so you’re not constantly jamming the buds deeper into your ears.

Even if my face was covered in sweat from a long run, the nose tips helped ensure the sunglasses didn’t slide around. You swipe across the right temple to raise or lower the volume, and on the underside of that temple is a small circular button that you can press to play / pause, double-tap to skip tracks, or triple-tap to go back.

It’s also a perfect example of how Samsung often whiffs on its first attempt at something but presses on anyway, eventually achieving the original vision it couldn’t the first time. This year, I’m hard pressed to find major faults with the Galaxy S21’s hardware. The Note 20 Ultra fixed the worst bugs but didn’t improve image quality.
