Given Sony’s photography ambitions for the 5 II, I’ll allow it the physical shutter control, but the Google Assistant button feels unnecessary — especially in a position that’s too low to be convenient to press. Sony’s approach to smartphone photography is twofold. The pro photography mode gives you a wealth of controls.
Although there’s no shipping date for it yet, Apple has sent out review samples of its upcoming MagSafe Duo charger to reviewers. It looks nice when it comes out of the box, but it’s made by press-molding the two sides together. You have to press down on the charger to remove the iPhone.
It’s tactile and actually presses in instead of relying on capacitive touch sensors. I greatly prefer this approach since you won’t have to deal with accidental presses as often when adjusting the earbuds. The button only requires a light press, so you’re not constantly jamming the buds deeper into your ears.
If this review is your first introduction to FPV drones, here’s how they are different from a typical drone. DJI has also developed an optional $199 motion controller, which I didn’t have time to test for this review. Photography and video by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge. The FPV has a fixed, super wide-angle camera on the front.
The tap controls work just like those on the Galaxy Buds Plus: single tap to pause, double to skip, three to go back, and you can customize what a long press does. It’s not a constant source of frustration, but it happens with more frequency than other earbuds I’ve reviewed lately. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
It’s also a perfect example of how Samsung often whiffs on its first attempt at something but presses on anyway, eventually achieving the original vision it couldn’t the first time. This year, I’m hard pressed to find major faults with the Galaxy S21’s hardware. I came into this review with a lot of skepticism. Night mode.
For this review, I evaluated it at its full retail price. Pressing the dial down also works to mute and unmute your computer, while holding down the Fn key as you turn it will adjust the backlighting brightness. Photography by Jon Porter / The Verge. and $69.99. As well as blue, the keyboard is also available in pink and white.
Track controls are on the right earbud: tap once for pause / play, press twice to skip tracks, and three times to go back. Once you get the functions down, they’re easy to remember, and the buttons are clicky enough that you don’t have to forcefully press them (and jam the buds uncomfortably deep into your ears) just to activate the controls.
The Siri button is now on the side, where you’re less likely to press it accidentally. The clickpad is quieter when pressed than the buttons below it, which are each significantly noisier than any other remotes I had to compare against, be it for a Roku, Chromecast, or otherwise. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
I’ve reached out to HP to see what’s up and will update this review if it turns out to be a bug. (Of They’re both minor; the fact that I’m even mentioning either of them in this review is a testament to how excellent this device is. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. The OLED panel is certified for “low blue light.”.
Note: Because of the way Fitbit structured the embargo on reviews, I had far less time to test than would be ideal for this kind of device (just five days). We may update this review down the road if longer-duration testing proves to garner important insights. It happened so often that I eventually disabled long-pressing all together.
The 1 and 2 action buttons are a little wobbly, but they’re so small that it’s hard not to press them with precision. Photography by Sam Byford / The Verge. I would not consider the Game Gear Micro to be the world’s greatest video game input device, but considering the circular D-pad is smaller than a dime, it’s remarkably usable.
My review board came equipped with standard Red switches. In theory, this means the keyboard’s input lag or the time between you pressing a key and the signal being transmitted to your PC, is as minimal as possible, presumably making all the difference in a high-speed gaming situation. Photography by Jon Porter / The Verge.
You swipe across the right temple to raise or lower the volume, and on the underside of that temple is a small circular button that you can press to play / pause, double-tap to skip tracks, or triple-tap to go back. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. In no time at all, these controls felt so natural and easy.
You can set it to open the exact camera mode you need in a hurry (underwater shutter button) or open a particular app if you double-press the button. Let’s get this out of the way: if you’re serious about photography, then you won’t like the cameras on the DuraSport. Photography by Gloria Sin / The Verge. DuraSport 5G UW Camera.
This makes for a compact, pocketable design, but the trade-off is that removing them from the case isn’t so simple: you’ve got to press down on the stem, which pushes up the main earbud portion, and then pluck that out of the case. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. Once you’ve done it a few times, you’ll have it down.
Opening the case is more of a process than usual since Bose put in a latch that you’ve got to release by pressing the button on front. Bose also lets you choose your preferred action for a long-press of the left bud: it can either announce battery status or skip to the next song. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
On top of that, it still offers a very good 10x optical zoom, as well as some appealing updates to its photography features. I utilized this extensively during my review, and it usually charged the half-depleted battery back up to 100 percent in under two hours, which is fine for me. There’s also 15W wireless charging.
That said, you’ll be hard-pressed to find substantially better performance at the $200 price point. The Moto G Power doesn’t have the processing power to pull off more sophisticated HDR or low light photography — for that you’d need to step up to the $350 Pixel 4A. Photography by Allison Johnson / The Verge.
There’s a dedicated shortcut button on the side of the TCL 10 Pro, but it’s a little easily to accidentally press. Regardless, I found the button was far too easy to accidentally press. Photography performance doesn’t live up to the amount of hardware in the 10 Pro. You’ll find a 3.5mm headphone jack on top of the device.
I wasn’t going to put my life at risk for this review by riding alongside heavy (and dangerous) automobiles just because European regulators can’t get their s**t together. A torque sensor ensures that power is delivered just as soon it detects a harder press on the pedal. If you’re in the US, then no problem.
A short press of the power button causes the D11 to spring to life. On my review unit, the motor cuts off at 24km/h, according to the bike’s display, not the stated 25km/h. Photography by Thomas Ricker / The Verge. Sure, it’s not iconic like the $3,499 Brompton Electric , but its folding mechanism is superior.
For this review, I’ll keep it simple and focus on speakers that resemble the Roam in size. I’ve also managed to drop my two review units a few times, and they’ve come away with only light blemishes and a couple nicks you really have to hunt for to notice. They’re easy to feel for and hard to press accidentally. Yes, I checked.
There’s a power button with embedded fingerprint sensor, three programmable keys, and a large volume rocker that’s easy to press with gloves on. These buttons do require a long press to bring up whatever shortcut function you’ve assigned to them, so a brief press won’t do anything. Photography by Allison Johnson / The Verge.
One of my first big projects for The Verge was our PlayStation Vita review since the handheld was released in Japan soon after the site launched — and months before it’d be available in the US. Photography and video games are two of my biggest passions, so it’s always going to be a good place to be based in that regard.
I went into this review with two main questions: does the 1165G7 beat its Intel predecessor (the 1065G7, which powers the most recent Dell XPS 13 ) and does it beat AMD’s Ryzen 7 4800U (part of Lenovo’s IdeaPad Slim 7 )? This does require a surprisingly firm press — I usually had to thunk it a couple times.)
You can long-press to switch them. Each button also has a different, hard-coded function when you long-press it. Long-pressing the bottom button takes you to Samsung Pay. Long-pressing the top button takes you to Samsung’s Bixby digital assistant. Photography by Dieter Bohn / The Verge. Samsung ecosystem.
The person in charge of The Verge’s reviews program, Dan Seifert, does not. Not that it really matters; I’ve yet to deplete the battery on my review table since I first set it outside over a week ago. My review unit is a near-final version of the device that is scheduled to ship in August (to the US only). I want a Suntable.
Unlike AirPods Pro or Bose’s QuietComfort Earbuds, these noise-canceling buds can pair with two devices at once Over the last several years, Jabra’s true wireless earbuds have consistently earned positive reviews and are often at the top of recommendation lists for people who aren’t interested in Apple’s AirPods.
Since their design is now so similar, Apple carried over the “force sensor” controls from the AirPods Pro, with an indent on each stem that designates where to press. Apple’s non-remappable controls handle media playback, and you can summon Siri with a long press. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
So instead, I’m going to use this review to explore two questions that concern the future of the luxury laptop market — questions the Vaio Z is setting out to answer: one, is contoured carbon fiber the future? Sturdiness and rigidity are difficult claims to verify with a review unit for obvious reasons. And two, can a 2.32-pound
The watch interface has a familiar layout: swipe down for settings, swipe up to see notifications, press the side button to see your apps. Instead, you have to tap into each one and then press clear or scroll to the bottom to clear them all. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge. It’s a clumsy and fiddly process.
It’s equipped with optical mechanical switches that can theoretically register key presses far faster than their traditional mechanical counterparts. Then, its 8,000Hz polling rate means it can report that key press to your PC nearly instantaneously. So yes, it’s theoretically very fast, arguably faster than most people will notice.
For this review, I’ve been using an AK84S with a full aluminum frame, PBT keycaps with the panda design, and clicky blue Gateron switches. The default screenshot button is unlabeled (it’s F13, in case you’re wondering), and there’s also a whole key dedicated to Insert, a button I’ve never pressed on purpose.
Just use the included keycap puller to whip off the Mac keys and press the Windows keys firmly onto the switches in their place. I was switching between wired and wireless modes throughout the review period, which meant I never saw the keyboard’s battery life run down to zero. Photography by Jon Porter / The Verge.
I like the finish of the H1 and the reassuring heavy-mechanical click it makes when pressed. In the Apple Home app, I assigned a single press of the left button to turn on the Aqara Smart Plug behind my TV (with a Govee Immersion LED light strip plugged in), my Apple TV box, and LG OLED TV; and defined a double press to turn it all back off.
And to round it all out, Roku throws in two customizable shortcut buttons that you can program to remember any voice command and repeat it with a press. If you switch off hands-free mode, you can still press and hold the microphone button on the front of the remote to speak commands. The new $29.99
And the two products go tit for tat in their core video and audio streaming features despite the older model often being discounted; at the time of this review, the regular Fire TV Stick 4K is on sale for $33.99. You’ve still got to press and hold the Alexa button for voice searches or smart home commands.
The 20 Pro 5G includes premium features you’d be hard-pressed to find in another $500 phone The TCL 20 Pro 5G is a good-looking budget phone that works out some of the first-gen kinks we encountered in the 10 Pro , but it isn’t quite ready to take on the category heavyweights. Photography by Allison Johnson / The Verge.
The keys are comfortable to press, too. The space bar on my unit was a bit squeaky, making it both cringey to press and awkward to listen to all day. This is a small thing, but think of how many times a day you press the space bar. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. You can create your own keyboard effects.
The G413 TKL SE lacks the USB passthrough of the original G413, and it’s also only got 6-key rollover as opposed to 26, which means you’re able to press fewer keys simultaneously before it gets confused. You need to press them 1.9mm before they actuate, compared to 1.2mm for Cherry MX Speed Silver, for example.
When I reviewed the Studio Buds, I praised their ambition and Beats’ attempt to cater to Android users as much as iPhone owners. The wing tip is flexible and pliable enough that it doesn’t press into the concha of your ear in an annoying way. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
Pressing the “globe” icon to the left of the spacebar opens up the handwriting panel. Photography by Allison Johnson / The Verge. First, messaging apps support handwriting-to-text conversion. This is a Gboard setting you can enable on any Android device, but it’s available by default on the G Stylus.
My review unit is the standard dark gray, but there are lilac purple and beige options if you want something brighter. I really like that the buttons now take up the full outer surface of the earbuds, making them effortless to find and press. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. Jabra describes it as “a sleek Danish design.”
