The phone rings in the middle of the night, and it's your child sobbing, calling for your help, and time is running out. Written by William Gillies, Hallow Road offers a claustrophobic setting where fear comes from the unknown of what's going on at the other end of the phone line. It's every parent's worst nightmare.
Google goes back to its old tricks, mostly for the better The amount of effort Google seems to put into its Pixel phones while simultaneously ensuring that they look and feel mundane never ceases to astonish me. The Pixel 5 has a simple rear-mounted fingerprint sensor that harkens back to Android phones from 2018, not 2020.
Here are some tactics to try: Bake in goal-review processes: You can add goal statements to tracking paperwork, insist on reviewing the purpose at every major goalpost, or ask stakeholders to consider the overall goal any time they request a change or addition. It was truly empathetic.

phone without cutting too many corners. Alongside its lower-tier N100 sibling, it’s the first phone in OnePlus’ midrange Nord series to arrive in the US, available from T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, and unlocked from OnePlus.com and other retailers. So what sacrifices did OnePlus make to create a $300 phone?
The OnePlus Buds require a OnePlus phone if you want to get the most from them, so these really won’t appeal to owners of other Android devices. The OnePlus Buds have strong battery life, decent sound, and a stable wireless connection. Like with AirPods, the open-air design of the OnePlus Buds will limit their sound potential.
A less expensive OnePlus phone that mostly ticks all the boxes There’s been a lot of talk about how OnePlus seems to be going back to its roots with its latest phone, the OnePlus Nord. But since its flagship phones aren’t going anywhere, the midrange Nord is instead the next step in OnePlus expanding its lineup.
It’s not the cheapest budget phone, but it will go the distance If a $100 budget phone is the fast-food dollar menu and a $1,000 flagship is a steakhouse dinner, then the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G sits comfortably halfway between the two: the laid-back all-day cafe with surprisingly tasty food. More importantly, it’s good where it matters.
So I was the perfect person to try out the Bose Sleepbuds II, a set of $250 earbuds, which are specifically designed not to play music or podcasts, but to block out and replace sounds that might disturb your sleep. Note that I use the term “transfer” and not “stream” since the sounds actually live on the buds rather than your phone.).
We may bit a post-CES news lull some days, but the reviews are coming in hot and heavy as February begins. Samsung has already debuted its latest premium phones and we've published a few long-term reviews of devices we've been testing for months. There's something for everyone this week. on them ever since.
Theyre comfortable, have great sound quality and powerful active noise cancellation. Nothing Phone 3a and 3a Pro review Stylish, tempting price, limited availability. Engadget If youre OK with Nothings limited US warranty, the $379 Phone 3a is a great budget device. Then theres the $459 Phone 3a Pro.
Google’s software makes the Honor 50 a contender rather than competitive It’s rare that you need to get into geopolitics at the outset of a smartphone review, but it’s impossible to avoid with the Honor 50. As a result, while not a bad phone, the Honor 50 ends up not feeling competitive with other handsets in its price range.
The company still doesn’t sell phones in the US, but there are international models with Google services available in countries like the UK, where it starts at £1,099 (about $1,500). Both phones have a 6.7-inch Turn the Find X3 Pro around, though, and it looks nothing like the OnePlus — or any other phone, really.
Wireless earbud reviews don’t just happen. This might sound like Christmas Day for many, but the sight of such a pile on my desk for me spells ear pain and the inevitable feeling of needing to find new music to love or podcasts to be fascinated by. Wireless Earbuds come in many shapes, sizes, and at many different price points.
If you’ve been curious about checking out the Microsoft Surface Duo foldable Android phone but didn’t want to pay its original $1,399 price — first off, I get you. This phone released in September 2020 to less-than-stellar reception from Dieter Bohn. The good news is that you no longer have to pay such a high cost to get one.
SEE ALSO: Ozlo Sleepbuds review: Can earbuds really improve your sleep? When I tested them in 2024 for our best noise-cancelling earbuds roundup , I found they acted incredibly similar to AirPods in how they paired with my phone and in their battery life — like the AirPods Pro, they offer six hours per charge with ANC on.
inch Liquid Retina display, a landscape camera layout that makes video calls appear better, and upgraded stereo speakers for better sound quality. Offering 25 hours of battery power, a 10-minute charge boost that delivers another 70 minutes, colorful LED lights, and in-app sound customization, they deemed it as powerful as it is portable.
A mood-setting novelty speaker that doesn’t slouch on sound Every so often, you get a reminder that Weird Sony is still alive and well. It’s fair to say that the $350 LSPX-S3 Glass Sound Speaker is exactly that kind of product. There’s no muddiness whatsoever to the sound. It might feel a little out of place in some contexts.
This week on The Verge ’s flagship podcast, The Vergecast , Dieter Bohn, Becca Farsace, and Dan Seifert log into a Zoom meeting to discuss their reviews of the next line of Samsung hardware on the market: the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra , the Galaxy Buds Live , and the Galaxy Watch 3. Galaxy Note 20 Ultra review.
A capable, if incremental, update OnePlus has always been very proud of the raw specs of its phones, and the OnePlus 8T is no different. The phone is better specced in almost every way than the OnePlus 8 it succeeds from earlier this year. Like every other OnePlus phone, the OnePlus 8T has a big display, which measures 6.55
And aside from a few tweaks Sony made to how it upscales music, the 1000XM4s sound just like their predecessors — a very good thing, trust me. The first is a simple convenience for anyone with an Android phone; Sony now supports Android’s Fast Pair for quick setup. Let’s get to the new stuff. Look familiar?
HomePod mini sound quality. With the first HomePod, Apple prioritized sound quality above all else. That’s not quite the same with the HomePod mini, but you can still hear the effort that went into making the mini sound relatively good. I say “good” because, for its size, the HomePod mini sounds quite nice.
After some time listening to the Pixel Buds today, I’d say Google succeeded at the first bit; bass boost makes for a very real improvement to sound quality if you were disappointed by low-end performance before. And in all honesty, I didn’t notice many issues during my time reviewing them. But I have in the weeks since.
That’s the magic number of times Oppo wants its rollable X 2021 concept phone to be able to expand and contract before it’ll consider it durable enough to turn into a commercial device. inch phone into a 7.4-inch In durability terms, Oppo thinks it’s halfway toward turning its rollable phone from a concept into reality.
It’s not just that it has a very understated design (though this definitely plays a part), it’s that Sony’s whole approach is to give you as much control over the phone as possible. Control over how it looks, and sounds, and takes photos and video. If you want a phone that’s guaranteed to not turn heads then this is probably it.
Great in concept, but there’s a limit to what Alexa can do on a phone I did not expect to like the Amazon Echo Frames as much as I do. Really, these are meant to be accessories to your phone only, and so the only good move is to set them up inside the Alexa app like any other Echo device. It cannot.
It could be mistaken for a phone or a small tablet, but it’s both less and more than those things. Given its capabilities relative to other phones, it is absolutely not worth that price. It rotates a full 360 degrees so you can swing one of the screens around the back and use it like a traditional phone.
The problem isn’t the sound quality; the Quest 2 has reasonable audio, although I find it a little thin. It’s that the sound is audible to anybody in the same room, and none of my headphones work well with the headset. These games weren’t available for review, but the existing Quest catalog already includes some relatively recent gems.
Two screens, five cameras, one hinge, $2,000 It’s a weird sort of relief to be reviewing the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. Depending on how you count, it’s either the second, third, or even fourth iteration of Samsung’s folding phone design. It’s still a phone-shaped thing that unfolds vertically into a tablet-shaped thing.
They’ve switched from an open-air design to a sealed fit; have better sound, thanks to that decision (and a partnership with THX); and they offer adequate active noise cancellation. For Samsung , it’s the clever new speech detection feature that enables ambient sound as soon as you start talking. In Apple’s case, that’s Spatial Audio.
A battery small enough to not look odd on a phone wouldn’t have enough juice. Apple found a balance between all those extremes and it maintains that balance with a tight software integration that aggressively manages how this battery charges your phone. Every battery pack looks silly attached to a phone.
With a rumored $349 price, OLED screen, Google’s great camera, and a good-enough processor, the upcoming Pixel 4A sounds like it’ll be a tough deal to beat for those who don’t need a premium phone. And it looks like the phone will finally be launching on August 3rd. inch display (2340 x 1080 resolution).
But most people aren’t really in the habit of switching back and forth between iOS and Android with each phone purchase. Samsung is consistently ranked as the biggest phone maker in the world. The Mi 11 would be a strong competitor to any S21 phone if you saw the two next to each other in a US carrier store. So who is it?
Check out my colleague Chris Welch’s review (and very fun video review by Becca Farsace above) to find out all of the details about these earphones. This brings the price down to $1,200, and you can drop the price further if you have a phone to trade-in during the purchase.
They retain the same enjoyable sound quality, and hands-free “Hey Google” access to Google Assistant and features like real-time language translation are still useful tricks to have at your disposal. The Bluetooth connection does seem to be stronger regardless of which pocket your phone is in. That’s a good thing.
Samsung caught some flak recently for underwhelming new versions of its regular flagship Galaxy phone, but it sounds like the next round of foldables could be more exciting. It's also expected that Samsung will overhaul the way the S Pen accessory works in order to make the phone's body thinner.
Beats says it has put an incredible amount of work into how the Studio Buds sound. The oval charging case is mercifully way smaller than the giant one that holds the Powerbeats Pro, and the red color of my review unit is quite eye-catching. Now onto the sound. The Powerbeats Pro sound still comes through as punchier to me.
Google’s latest smart speaker has good sound and an attractive price Four years is an eternity in the modern tech product world, but that’s exactly how long it’s been since Google’s first smart speaker, the Google Home , was released. Still, the Nest Audio’s shape is hard to describe without accidentally sounding pejorative.
Sony’s new earbuds deliver on sound, battery life, and beat all comers at noise cancellation Sony first released its WF-1000XM3 earbuds nearly two years ago, and though they offered some of the best noise cancellation and sound quality you could find at that time, a lot has changed since. WF-1000XM4 earbuds. Impressive stuff.
When I reviewed the Studio Buds, I praised their ambition and Beats’ attempt to cater to Android users as much as iPhone owners. But despite their great comfort, good sound, and compact design, those earbuds had some key missing features and fell a bit flat on execution. Bring that remapping capability to your other earbuds, Apple.
Bose’s sporty shades offer good sound, a steady fit, and total awareness It’s still fair to call audio sunglasses a niche category, but with Bose offering several models, Amazon in the game , and counting recent announcements from Razer and JLab , it’s certainly a growing one. Describing the sound quality of audio sunglasses can be tricky.
Good sound quality and best-in-class noise cancellation come in an awkwardly big case Bose’s original true wireless earbuds, the SoundSport Free, sounded fantastic but were foiled by connectivity problems and audio / video sync issues that the company never fully resolved. They still sound terrific — and now, they’ve got ANC.
The camera system is new and intriguing, but the phone is overpriced Sony’s new Xperia 1 II smartphone is purpose-built for one very specific thing: to make your phone work a little bit more like a standalone Sony Alpha camera. The 1 II looks exactly like last year’s phone, only bigger. inch screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio.
