I am the director of a non-profit that promotes open museum practices, and we are in midst of launching a free service for arts organizations: a web site that permits any museum to create a participatory exhibit space and social network centered on the museum's collections. It takes content, strategy and elbow grease.

I'm at the live blogging tutorial and people are introducing themselves and I've noticed some great computer and hand bags. There are still enough urinals to cover the 20% of men attendees).

To make this model work, there was another IRC backchannel that streamed audio from the conference and someone did the equivalent of live tweeting. Spend some time at the beginning of your presentation explaining to your audience how you will respond to the twitter stream and audience members are more likely to use it responsibly.

(My They are encouraging people to tag into del.icio.us, flickr, YouTube, etc. and then aggregating tagged content on their site. The content aggregation is not moderated.

I see three significant internal reasons for homogenization in museums: As money gets tight, museums look for exhibits, program strategies, and revenue streams that are "proven" by other institutions' successes, rather than charting their own potentially risky path.
