I just returned from the Nonprofit Technology Conference (#12NTC) hosted by NTEN in San Francisco, CA. Holly and the rest of the NTEN team (including all the volunteers) did an incredible job inspiring of over 1800 people for three days. At the end of the day, calculating the real value of a Facebook Like or Twitter Follower is tough.
These insights were gleaned from over 3,500 respondents to a survey sent out by Blackbaud, NTEN and Common Knowledge. The Average Facebook & Twitter Communities Grow by 30% and 81%, respectively. Twitter Accounts. and a Twitter Follower costs $2.05. Two particular insights seem to be making the rounds initially.

I'm so excited that Megan Keane is now at NTEN as our Community Engagement Manager. She'll be managing our social channels - including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google+, and GOOD - as well as supporting Tech Club leaders and generally making sure NTEN's community programs always amp up the awesome.
Before I worked at NTEN, I managed the NetSquared program at TechSoup Global. As part of that role, I was in charge of our various social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. While this NTEN eBenchmark Study is from 2012, the data continues to grow and support the future of nonprofit technology, and comparing years can lead to newly occurring trends. These numbers increased from 2011, which showed only 103 Facebook fans, 29 Twitter followers, and 10 mobile subscribers for every 1,000 email subscribers.
