I have not been blogging because I've been at the NTEN NTC Conference , the premier event for nonprofit techies taking place in San Francisco. The NpTech Community has been early adopters of social media and socialnetworks like Twitter. In a social environment and it is mysterious why one thing works or does not.
During the NTC, ThePort Network, Inc , NTEN , and Common Knowledge released results of a survey that examines the use of socialnetworking as a marketing and fundraising tool. The survey polled 978 nonprofit professionals about their organizations’ use of commercial socialnetworking sites (e.g.
Nonprofit organizations are increasingly adopting socialnetworking tools to create a sense of community among members and donors. Although these statistics reinforce nonprofit's acceptance of social media, the numbers do not show whether organizations have adopted internal or external tools. .
Nonprofits are taking advantage of this technology; according to the Nonprofit SocialNetworking Survey by NTEN, Common Knowledge & Blackbaud, the average nonprofit’s fan or follower base grew by 30 percent on Facebook and 81 percent on Twitter in 2011. Clearly, Bok Tower Gardens makes the most of their social media.
I think people are finally realizing that the current state of affairs – where we can pump data into Facebook and other socialnetworks, but not get data out of them, is untenable.
