There are, of course, some tweaks we can make to make sure that everyone really can gain value from NTC, and we can sustain the richness that it contains.
This year, I’m much more clear about the directions my work is going in, and what I’m looking for at NTC. Last year I was just re-emerging from having taken a break to go to seminary, and not quite exactly sure what I was doing. And of course, there is Penguin Day !!
Every year, we do our best to offer more opportunities to learn and connect at the NTC, and this year is no different. We’ve recruited two rock star storytelling, social media experts, Michaela Hackner and Roger Burks , to head up a 2 hour workshop on Wednesday, March 16 (the night before the official kick-off of the NTC) from 6 - 8 pm.
Many of the 1500 people in the room at NTC agree with us, but the challenge is when they go back to the office – culture change is needed. Nonprofits need to fail from the inside out — we have to make it okay to not be perfect inside of nonprofits and to honestly share lessons learned beyond our walls.

The first day of Dreamforce is typically the welcome events, some breakouts, extra training and the like. Something similar happened a few years back when NTEN scheduled NTC over Passover. In 2012, Salesforce's huge and wonderful conference, Dreamforce , will be held September 18-21.

The book goes into depth about each of these principles and how to incorporate into a training session. Walk and Talk: I do this a lot in half-day or full-day trainings. This was true for the NTC session, one person commented, “I’m an introvert, so partnering up with another person didn’t work for me.”

In the nonprofit technology community, I’ve heard stories of cut backs on “nice to have&# items and expenses such as travel and training so that organizations can focus on their most critical goals first and cut back on what they deem not to be completely necessary. I have some of my best ideas while washing dishes, and I find some of the best sites while on the train. If I see conference signage I want Anna to use at the next NTC, I snap a picture and save it in my NTC notebook. The big takeaway for me from the Creating a Culture of Storytelling session at NTC was that organizations can very easily do more to tell their stories, and this act alone could be the most important thing nonprofits do to gain donors, supporters, and relevance.
