I gotta hand it to Holly Ross and the tireless NTEN team for putting on yet another fantastic event! While listening is critical at an event like NTC, it’s also a key function back in the offices of our nonprofits. We are excited to welcome longtime NTEN Member, Ash Shepherd, to the NTEN team. As the Education Director, Ash will be responsible for overseeing and designing programs for the NTEN Community to help them transform technology into social change. Ash has been a go-to resource for NTEN staff and members for years.
This year, I’m much more clear about the directions my work is going in, and what I’m looking for at NTC. Last year I was just re-emerging from having taken a break to go to seminary, and not quite exactly sure what I was doing. And of course, there is Penguin Day !!
Here at NTEN, we were shocked and saddened to hear the news that last week our colleague, Michael DeLong, passed away very suddenly. Michael was an active member of the NTEN community, NTC speaker, colleague, friend, and an all-around great person to know. He was our social media manager.

I have not been blogging because I've been at the NTENNTC Conference , the premier event for nonprofit techies taking place in San Francisco. The NpTech Community has been early adopters of social media and social networks like Twitter. The relative value has changed because of social media. Failure for free.

In that window of opportunity, I snagged an invite from NTEN’s Amy Sample Ward and have spent the last day playing around with it in between other projects. Those side connections are not technically part of NTC, but for me it’s an essential part of the conference.
Every year, the NTEN community comes together to raise enough money to send staff from small nonprofits to the NTC. The silliness is, of course, a means to an end: creating a community devoted to transforming technology into social change. The NTC is a huge part of that. We've raised nearly $5,000 so far.
