I’m tired of reading and hearing about about social media and nonprofits, and I’m annoyed that social media is taking up so much of the air space in the #nptech world. I’m a fairly active user of Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and some other social networking sites, and have been for years now. Can it be demoted now?

June 18, 2007 OK, so I finally drank the Facebook coolaid – and although it took me a long time to get around to, I have now realized how many people in the nptech field have already been on facebook for a while. I decided to try out facebook when I kept hearing about the integration of other social networking sites into facebook.
According to PC World , Yahoo will shut down several of its Web properties, including Delicious, according to a leaked Yahoo presentation slide that was posted on Twitter. Marnie Webb introduced me to the NpTech Tag and a whole nonprofit tech community embraced it. So, I’m half hoping his tweet isn’t tongue in check.
Amy is a great source for nptech tips of all types. and social network guru for the nptech community. David is always a great source for thoughtful insights about opensource. Amy Sample Ward let’s us know how to give green. Beth is, of course, THE web 2.0 It’s a great, thoughtful post.
I’ve been learning about some interesting examples of the use of APIs in nonprofit organizations, as well as learning what vendors (both proprietary and opensource) are thinking about the issue. I’m looking forward to getting into the meat of the writing. That’s a good thing. Be Helpful.

Unfortunately, the nptech world hasn’t yet caught on to the “Planet&# phenomenon of the opensource world (see Planet Ubuntu Women.) These are sites that are simply aggregators of the blogs of those involved in a particular opensource project (like, in this case, women involved in Ubuntu ).

The NTEN's NTC and NPTech Pipe. We have the NPTech Meta Tag Feed (which aggregates about dozen feeds of NpTech tagged items and I'm still using for various reasons); Kikono.org (which uses an NpTech feed and digg like features) and now we have the two pipes from NTEN - the NTC pipe and the NpTech Pipe.
It’s new and updated for the realities of the nonprofit technology and free and opensource worlds of 2007. The primer, which will show up in just electronic form, also has a very cool implementation of a great open API that we’ll be crowing about soon (my lips are sealed right now.)
