Because of this, the deck has always been stacked against opensource tools in this arena. From my perspective, open data (via ope APIs) can sometimes be more important to consider than whether or not a tool is opensource – since integration with other tools, as well as using external tools of various sorts is critical.

OpenOffice.org is a free and opensource cross-platform office suite, which can read and write MS Office.doc,xls, and.ppt files. June 18, 2007 OK, so I finally drank the Facebook coolaid – and although it took me a long time to get around to, I have now realized how many people in the nptech field have already been on facebook for a while. I decided to try out facebook when I kept hearing about the integration of other social networking sites into facebook.
Once a community has determined its needs, however, utilizing opensource software presents a more rapid, sustainable path to implementation. With opensource (specifically, in this case, Drupal ), all of the functionality is available already (except for the jet-packs and sinks -- those are still in beta).
