It’s been a few days since I returned from the Nonprofit Technology Conference (#12NTC) hosted by NTEN in San Francisco, CA. Holly and the rest of the NTEN team (including all the volunteers) did an incredible job inspiring of over 1800 people for three days. Over the last decade the discussion around nonprofit technology ( #nptech ) has primarily been social media, mobile technology, and online fundraising, however as the internet enters its next phase, nonprofits need to better understand some of the more complicated concepts that will shape the internet and its use in the decades to come.
According to a 2012 infographic from NTEN , nonprofits have miniscule budgets when it comes to IT support and services, but realize the important role technology plays in their organization. The average technology budget is 5% of a nonprofit’s total budet. 49% of nonprofits are not measuring their ROI of technology.
NTEN, the Nonprofit Technology Network, puts on a massive, be-there-or-be-square conference for nonprofit professionals every year (in 2009, we met in San Francisco). But, if you don’t want to wait until April to dive into the knowledge and expertise in the NTEN network, you don’t have to!
But we also shared more than that – the nonprofit technology field. That’s when I first heard about Rob Stuart who at the time was Director of the Rockefeller Technology Project , at the Rockefeller Family Fund. His projects included the National Strategy for Nonprofit Technology and the Circuit Riders Program.

The 2012 Nonprofit Technology Conference (NTC) was the 12th conference that I have attended (it had earlier reiterations). Every year it is like attending a family reunion. I have some many friends and colleagues that I only get to see once a year at the NTC. Several individuals in the nonprofit technology community were recognized.
