Discussion boards can be added to your website, leveraged in a Ning site, or you can use a google group or similar solution. Consider Ning, Basecamp, and Zoho. If users have to create an account, that in itself is a barrier, but it will allow you to delete accounts that spam. What are some other considerations/barriers?
Kind of like if Ning , Google Talk , Gmail , Twitter and Facebook got smooshed together into a single open source environment.
