I just got an email from Holly Ross, the Executive Director of the Non-profit Technology Network – better known as NTEN. You received the same email if, like me, you’re subscribed to the NTEN newsletter (hint hint). What’s the Nonprofit Social Networking Survey? First, go take this years survey.
Back in the mid-1990′s – after 15 years of working the nonprofit sector, I got obsessed by technology and started working as the network weaver for an online network of artists called ArtsWire. I got hear the legends in the nptech sector in the early days talk about their work and was inspired.

Over the last decade the discussion around nonprofit technology ( #nptech ) has primarily been social media, mobile technology, and online fundraising, however as the internet enters its next phase, nonprofits need to better understand some of the more complicated concepts that will shape the internet and its use in the decades to come.
NTEN, the Nonprofit Technology Network, puts on a massive, be-there-or-be-square conference for nonprofit professionals every year (in 2009, we met in San Francisco). But, if you don’t want to wait until April to dive into the knowledge and expertise in the NTENnetwork, you don’t have to!
During the past two weeks, links shared via the #nptech hashtag on Twitter have been like a Chinese buffet, a huge selection of tempting dishes that look so good you want to fill an entire plate. Bottom line – nonprofits are having some success in connecting with new constituents and generating action, but the social network works best when requiring a low level of commitment. Like other studies have noted, social networks like Facebook are not raising much money. hours per week on the social network.

A robust knowledge sharing network might involve people sharing resources, best practices, worst practices, just-in-time information, quick tips, and deep thinking, all focused on a specific topic. What are some examples of knowledge sharing networks? Knowledge is a lofty word.
Niche networks are smaller, more specific networks that can provide you with targeted, passionate audiences ready and waiting to hear what you have to say. The trick is to balance working with larger networks and some of the more specific networks to create a very useful and strategic approach to community building.
Enter NTEN''s 501 Tech Clubs.
