The system has three components: The Image Tagger -- Volunteers sort through news photos coming out of Haiti and categorize (tag) them with keywords like “adult, child, alive, deceased.” Volunteers look at a photo of a missing person, compare it to a news image, and see if they can find a match.
Whether they are vendors like CauseVox , openly asking for what the community needs in a fundraising tool and building towards the response, or they are individuals that take a photo or shoot a short video that they share with the world changing the conversation about an issue or an event. But we need new resources, too.
I missed the post about flickr use by MoveOn on netsquared when I was in London earlier this month. The article points out that adhoc groups have formed on flickr to support photo sharing and organizing around political topics, but MoveOn's use of flickr is on a larger scale.
