Before I worked at NTEN, I managed the NetSquared program at TechSoup Global. At that time, most of NetSquared’s content came from the community blog, where anyone working at the intersection of technology and social impact could create a profile and contribute to the blog with stories, case studies, and more. In the beginning, TechSoup’s Marnie Webb, Daniel Ben-Horin, and Billy Bicket created NetSquared to "remix the web for social change." To get going, they built the first NetSquared website using open-source Drupal. The NetSquared website was itself designed to be a model Web 2.0 " The year was 2005.

Some of the lessons learned include: -Could have provided the Netsquared community with more tools to do their work like listserves, web sites, etc. The presentation is here.
I think this is a hard concept for many to agree with because of the process by which the social media tools are most often adopted in organizations: for example, Jane really likes taking pictures and usually posts them to Flickr (an online photo sharing website) as a way to store them, sort them, and share them.

Whether they are vendors like CauseVox , openly asking for what the community needs in a fundraising tool and building towards the response, or they are individuals that take a photo or shoot a short video that they share with the world changing the conversation about an issue or an event. But we need new resources, too.
