Here at NTEN, we were shocked and saddened to hear the news that last week our colleague, Michael DeLong, passed away very suddenly. Before I worked at NTEN, I managed the NetSquared program at TechSoup Global. At that time, most of NetSquared’s content came from the community blog, where anyone working at the intersection of technology and social impact could create a profile and contribute to the blog with stories, case studies, and more.

The system has three components: The Image Tagger -- Volunteers sort through news photos coming out of Haiti and categorize (tag) them with keywords like “adult, child, alive, deceased.” Volunteers look at a photo of a missing person, compare it to a news image, and see if they can find a match.

Supporters have uploaded photos of themselves with a sign that says, "I support Ethiopian farmers." So far, 186 photos have been posted. My only criticism of the campaign is that very few of the photos have a Creative Commons license that allows bloggers and other supporters to share the photos and spread the word.

I think NTEN is a terrific example of the rule of thirds. You can also share the impact of your organization's programs through podcasts, sharing photos on Flickr, or videos on YouTube or other video sharing sites. His tweets reveal him as a renaissance thinker, not just a narrow-minded tech geek. .
