I recently got my copy of Measuring the Networked Nonprofit by Beth Kanter and Katie Delahaye Paine. One that really speaks to me is the point that “measurement helps nonprofits understand and improve their social networks.” Before I worked at NTEN, I managed the NetSquared program at TechSoup Global.
The NetSquared conference just wrapped up, and it was a lot of fun. Networking with people I know is always great, and I found the premise of this year's program different and exciting. Netsquared had picked 21 projects to run through two days of pitches concluding with voting from the attendees. I love Freecycle!

I spent today at day 1 of the TechSoup Global Summit in Mountain View with two hundred and forty people who work in the TechSoup Global Network around the world, plus other stakeholders. I’ve been involved with TechSoup/NetsquaredNetwork since its inception back six years ago and so it is nice to be part of the narrative arc.
Today Allison Fine and I celebrated the launch of the Networked Nonprofit at TechSoup Global in the space where Netsquared Meetups take place. Most importantly, the vision that Marnie Webb had over five years ago called Netsquared inspired me to keep blogging and explore social media and nonprofits. Small world.
Earlier this week, a mixed crowd of entrepreneurs, investors, start ups, nonprofits, social activists, and others came together for the inaugural conference on Catalyzing the Sharing Economy defined as the use of networked, mobile, information technology to share goods and services. Think AirBNB and Uber, but it is much more than that.
I’d like to use this post to share some of the responses to the Networked Nonprofit at different book events and online during the past month and let you know about upcoming events in November. Last week, I got to BoardSource at 8 am just so I could hear Marnie Webb and Rebecca Masisak, CO-CEOs of TechSoup Global share their lessons learned in developing, weaving, and stewarding two very different types of networks. The second network, Netsquared , in contrast was more loosely controlled with a lower risk in failure.
