In the Netherlands, State Secretary for Culture Halbe Zijlstra slashed 200 million euros from the national budget for the arts, leading to the close of the innovative National History Museum project and crippling many superbly inventive and inspiring organizations like Mediamatic and the Waag Society. Well, they only cost me $8 apiece.

The new building of Naturalis, the Dutch National Natural History Museum, opened in 1998. The museum presents changing temporary exhibitions, but the permament exhibition has remained the same since opening. The solution was to get impractical proposals on the table. So I asked people to make up scenarios.

MuseumNext had four main sections: Interactive activities , including an opening workshop with a group of designers associated with an extremely wonderful exhibition called Doing it for the Kids featuring sustainable toy designs. Thank you to everyone who came and helped co-create an exciting experimental event in a beautiful city.
