In a normal month, 40 to 50 Arizona nonprofits will gain ‘public charity’ status from the IRS. What is driving this explosion in public charities in Arizona? The same graph using national data shows the same summer 2014 spike. Administrative accident or no, the explosion in the number of public charities is certainly noticeable.

The United Way is a public charity — not a grantmaking foundation — but, as 58% of quiz takers recognized, it is the number one grantmaker in Arizona. As 52% of our quiz takers recognized, this is not a local affiliate of the MDA, but is the national headquarters, located in Tucson, Arizona. million in grants and contributions.

In offering the public the example he gave, Armstrong rhetorically asked me to consider the sacred. Had Armstrong asked his employees and the public to “examine the rising cost of healthcare and its effect on employee benefits” people would, no doubt, have agreed to do so. Did he have the right…the obligation to raise the issue?
