The beta is limited to the personal side of social networking. MySpace allowed personal profiles to be converted into brand profiles which strongly appealed to the spammers and aggressive business marketers – and I believe that decision inevitably lead to its downfall (being sold to Rupert Murdoch didn’t help either).

We started slowly with the MySpace page , and we started in earnest with Flickr. Spam, obscenity--they just aren't an issue at all. MySpace is, but Facebook isn’t. It’s a long term commitment.

In just that short time it has become abundantly clear that I have been living and working in social networking bubble of nice, friendly, supportive nonprofit folks. My advice to nonprofits has always been that mean people on social networking sites are few and far between, so don’t worry so much about them.
