A big part of that is the display: the 2020 Envy has an 88 percent screen-to-body ratio, compared to 79 percent on last year’s model. There, you can swap between presets for Music, Movie, and Voice, as well as equalizer settings for different tunes. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. Don’t buy last year’s Spectre.
inch screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio. Instead of fighting a losing computational photography battle against other smartphones, Sony is taking the fight back to its home turf: the Alpha camera line. Sony has optimized the entire camera stack for high-speed photography: it can focus at 60fps and burst-shoot at 20fps.
If you’re looking for an affordable Netflix machine, the Spin is a great candidate — especially given its movie-friendly 16:9 aspect ratio. The Chromebook delivered decent volume — certainly enough to fill a room — but percussion was tinny as I listened to music, and you can forget about bass entirely. My one disappointment was audio.
percent screen-to-body ratio. Say hello to the 16:10 aspect ratio, another welcome addition to the XPS 15. Music sounded good, and the 3D feature made a noticeable difference. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. The panel really does appear to stretch from end to end. No more USB-A, though it comes with a dongle.
Its 16:9 aspect ratio display feels cramped, and its keys are spaced a little too far apart. Both of these models also have displays with a more generous aspect ratio than the Element Lite, which is a boon for productivity work. inch, 1080p touchscreen with a 60Hz refresh rate and a 16:9 aspect ratio. It’s also too expensive.
Samsung’s Galaxy Chromebook, Asus’ Chromebook Flip C436, and many of last year’s top contenders like the Pixelbook Go all used a 16:9 aspect ratio — a more square 3:2 screen is taller and gives you significantly more vertical space. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. The first is its 3:2 display. The second is the price.
Also, this is minor, but it’s something I really appreciated: the app doesn’t auto-pause your music or podcasts, so you can keep listening to your jams while flying. Photography by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge. Without calibrating every few flights, the horizon would look slanted, which I found annoying.
My only gripe with either display is that they have 16:10 aspect ratios and therefore a much smaller surface area than their iPad Pro counterparts. I have to press the Fn key every time I want to pause music or adjust the volume. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge.
The display isn’t necessarily hurt by it being a 16:9 aspect ratio since it’s so big, but I’d love to see Razer move to the taller 16:10 aspect ratio, as it does in the smaller Razer Book. For music, I preferred the sound quality with the setting off. Photography by Cameron Faulkner / The Verge.
Also, the ZBook’s OLED screen is a treat to look at, but I hope HP employs a taller 3:2 aspect ratio here next time, like it does with the Spectre X360 lineup. The speakers are better than I expected for taking video calls with, or for listening to music, though you’ll get better performance out of just about any set of headphones.
I could actually hear the bass in music (a rarity) and percussion was particularly strong. The Latitude is also 16:9 with 1920 x 1080 resolution; I’m surprised not to see a 4K option at this price, and the 16:9 aspect ratio can be cramped when it comes to multitasking in multiple windows. If you have a terrible attention span during movies, it’s also good for scrolling through Twitter or checking IMDb to figure out what TV show that actor was in while watching Netflix, although the second small display is hard to use for any overly complex tasks due to its size and nearly square aspect ratio.
Thanks to its rounded corners and sloped edges, the G Pure is comfortable to hold for long stretches, though it’s a bit tall (the screen has a 20:9 aspect ratio) to use single-handed for my small hands.
