I don’t know that I would go that far, but I also can’t remember the last time I’ve said “whoa, look at this photo” as many times as I have during this review. Combined with some tuning and improvements to Apple’s computational photography, the low light performance on the 13 Pro is simply second to none.
My $799 review unit has the Ryzen 5-4500U, along with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. There, you can swap between presets for Music, Movie, and Voice, as well as equalizer settings for different tunes. Reviews of budget and midrange laptops are often a question of what you’re trading off for that lower price point.
You don’t need to worry about missing a call if you’re absorbed in a movie or show on Netflix on your laptop. I’m reviewing the headphones as they’re performing out of the box and will circle back once the update is made available. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
Again, it’s not a problem unless you’re sensitive to that sort of thing, but you’ll absolutely hear the volume rocker when you’re turning up a certain scene in a movie or show. My review of the new Apple TV 4K is coming soon, but if you’ve already got the last model, this is the only real must-have upgrade to go for.
That is a strange thing to type as I (and every reviewer I know) have been ragging on Android tablets for nearly a decade. They’re nicer for watching movies, playing games, reading books, and everything else. Photography by Dieter Bohn / The Verge. Samsung has also refined the software that runs the Z Fold 3.
So far, this review has been largely praise, but the WF-1000XM4 earbuds do come with one crushing disappointment: they don’t support two simultaneous Bluetooth connections, a feature known as multipoint. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. A complete lack of any special interopability with the PlayStation 5 is a shame, though.
If you’re looking for an affordable Netflix machine, the Spin is a great candidate — especially given its movie-friendly 16:9 aspect ratio. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. It delivers a crisp picture, and it gets bright enough for even some outdoor use (if you’re in the shade). Oh, and it even has USI stylus support.
That’s not the case with the 10 Pro, though I will qualify that claim by saying that, since I’m on Verizon, I wasn’t able to test it on 5G for this review. The Shelf is back — that’s a home screen page where you can put your widgets and an inspirational message / daily affirmation / quote from a ’90s disaster movie.
With the new Find tab, you can dig deeper into dedicated areas for movies, TV, genres, or other categories like “free,” which highlights ad-sponsored streaming channels. These are a few I saw as I moved down the Home tab: Pluto TV — free movies and TV shows — sponsored. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge.
When you’re watching movies in Netflix, HBO Max, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime Video, or other popular apps, this head tracking can be an immersive, fun experience and mimics surround sound better than a regular stereo mix would. It really does add to the satisfaction of watching movies on my iPad Pro.
So instead, I’m going to use this review to explore two questions that concern the future of the luxury laptop market — questions the Vaio Z is setting out to answer: one, is contoured carbon fiber the future? Sturdiness and rigidity are difficult claims to verify with a review unit for obvious reasons. And two, can a 2.32-pound
The Tab S7 Plus, in particular, provides the best movie watching experience you can hold in your hands. This isn’t a problem when you’re watching movies or YouTube, but when it comes time to get work done, the Tab S7 models feel cramped. The best experience with the Tab S7 is when you’re watching movies or TV shows. Performance.
If you have a terrible attention span during movies, it’s also good for scrolling through Twitter or checking IMDb to figure out what TV show that actor was in while watching Netflix, although the second small display is hard to use for any overly complex tasks due to its size and nearly square aspect ratio.
But it’s much harder to do the same thing with a projector when they’re mounted to ceilings or placed on a coffee table for an impromptu movie or gaming night with friends. Movie mode includes 60Hz MEMC motion compensation, which I promptly disabled. With projectors, the more self-contained they are, the better. inches / 6.6
Razer has packed 10mm drivers into these earbuds, and they’ve gone through THX certification to “present a rich, balanced sound stage for all your movies, music, and gaming.” Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. The Hammerhead True Wireless Pros are IPX4-rated for sweat resistance, making them suitable for general workouts.
You can also buy the Streaming Stick 4K Plus, which bundles the same exact hardware with Roku’s Voice Remote Pro that I reviewed (and liked) a few months ago. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. (The older stick was released before Vision settled into must-have status.) And it costs the same $49.99 in which I signaled interest.
All in, the bundle of products I reviewed would cost $2,349.97 The immersion factor grew more impressive when I watched Atmos content from Netflix or through my Movies Anywhere library. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. for 200W or $699.99 for 300W ). before tax. The HT-A7000 is quite a bit larger than the Sonos Arc.
Private listening remains a huge convenience, though other platforms like the Chromecast with Google TV, Fire TV, and Apple TV support Bluetooth earbuds to achieve the same end result; if you need to keep a room quiet but still want to enjoy a show or movie, you can have your own private bubble of sound without disturbing others.
The Apple TV’s home screen is still the same old static grid of apps, and Apple does what it can to steer you into using its Apple TV app, which aggregates TV shows and movies from numerous services and is also where you’ll find Apple TV Plus originals. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. No, not really.
Note, though, that this is a fairly low-power implementation of the 1165G7 — and in synthetic benchmarks, many reviewers have seen the chip fall behind its 10th-generation predecessors. I wasn’t even planning to mention the speakers in this review because I just assumed they’d be as terrible as they always are in laptops this small.
Amazon’s big, cheap tablet can now be had many different ways Amazon’s lineup of Fire tablets has settled into a familiar routine: they are available in small, medium, and large; they are priced far lower than comparable iPads; and they are mostly good for reading and watching movies or TV, with content likely supplied by Amazon itself.
You can create custom equalizer profiles in the preloaded Dolby Access software, and you can also toggle presets for scenarios like voice, music, movies, and games. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. And the stereo speakers are fine, delivering distortion-free audio with percussion and bass that are audible but not exceptional.
As I mentioned in my review of the previous Govee model , I’ve long been a fan of the Ambilight tech used on some Philips televisions, the ones that make it seem like the display is bleeding onto the wall in perfect 360-degree synchronization. Video mode can be set to either Dynamic (previously known as Game) or Calm (previously Movie).
Dieter was a fan of the Xperia 1 II’s look when he reviewed it , and I’m in agreement about the III: it’s a sophisticated, understated design and I dig it. Maybe I’m easily impressed by these things, but I can see myself genuinely enjoying watching a movie or a show on the Xperia 1 III, rather than as a last resort to stave off boredom.
Also, dark scenes in movies, TV shows, and games have a gray, washed-out look to them. My colleague Jon Porter reviewed the TCL 10 Pro earlier this year , a $449 phone that prioritizes design over the connectivity and speed of this Verizon-exclusive model. Photography by Cameron Faulkner / The Verge. It has a 6.5-inch
In undergrad I earned a BFA in photography as well as a BA in social thought and analysis. ve recently launched a new product, CueRate, which allows organizations to collect digital images and review them in a panel for fellowships, juried exhibitions, art school admissions, etc. Was that your progression? Actually, I???m
One thing Apple would not tell me is how resistant this stainless steel frame is to nicks and scratches… and we’ve already put a tiny nick in the frame of our review unit, even though all it’s really done is travel from video shoot to video shoot. But to understand HDR in video, you have to set aside everything you know from photography HDR.
separate input and output audio jacks, and an SD card reader (though that reader was frustratingly slow according to reviewers ). I ran into a number of bugs with the last MSI product I reviewed, the GE66 Raider, but I’m happy to report that they all seem to have been fixed. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge.
I got eight hours out of a standard 1080p video rundown test, but I doubt that many people are buying a $2,300 laptop just to loop movies.). Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. But switching out to Microsoft Edge didn’t improve things much. The battery life, the fans, and the cooling are marks against the Dell XPS 15.
Arm for Windows has certainly improved since we first reviewed the Surface Pro X in 2019. The last one I reviewed was Acer’s ConceptD Ezel , a hulking 5.6-pound I think this is the first laptop I’ve ever reviewed that I wish had slightly larger bezels. Photography by Monica Chin/The Verge. pound affair with a GPU inside.
I struggled to find a good use case for this mode other than watching movies on an airplane tray table or poking around on the touchscreen, as the angle of the display is still too vertical to comfortably write on it with a pen. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge. A side view of the Surface Laptop Studio in tent mode.
All of these headphones now do a tremendous job of quieting your surroundings and putting you in a private bubble with your music, podcasts, movies, or whatever else you’re using them for. Photography by Chris Welch / The Verge. And you’re not simply going to find a more comfortable pair of noise-canceling headphones.
But if you’ve got your eye on an OLED screen, either because you’re doing color work on the side or you just want your games and movies to look great, this device should get the job done (albeit in a loud and hot manner). Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. inch 4K OLED screen.
If you need proof of just how little Razer has changed its design over the years, compare these pictures to those from our 2019 review and from our 2020 review. Just like I noted in my review of the thinner-than-ever 2021 Blade 15 Advanced , the new fingerprint-resistant coating works as advertised — the bar was low, admittedly.
We haven’t yet gotten to review the 3080 model of the Scar, but the frame rates other reviews have reported are better than, but not worlds away from what I’m seeing here — and the Scar is almost $1,000 more. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. The speakers and microphone support two-way AI noise cancellation.
In the preloaded Dolby Access app, you can also switch between presets for music, gaming, movies, etc. I wish this review could stop there. Reviewers throw this phrase around to describe all kinds of laptops, but it’s very true here: in attempting to be a jack of all trades, this laptop is a master of none.
While you might imagine 32:9 being great for movies, I had a hard time finding anything I could play in ultra high definition that wasn’t 16:9. The 4K YouTube videos I played were definitely clearer than 1080p — I could really peep these pixels in Dieter’s iPhone 12 video review. At the very least, here’s hoping Samsung adds HDMI 2.1
But for the purposes of this review, I tested just the out-of-the-box experience. Through the Xbox Accessories app for Windows 10 or Xbox, you can adjust the equalizer (movie, music, game, heavy bass, and speech are the presets, or make your own) and boost the bass. Photography by Cameron Faulkner / The Verge.
Whether you’re a die-hard OLED enthusiast or you’re just looking for a way to upgrade your movie-watching experience, you now have two excellent 13-inch OLED machines to choose from: the Dell XPS 13 and the Asus ZenBook 13. The AMD configuration that I reviewed was a standout in this area, averaging over 11 hours in my testing.
The Flex 5G’s 2-in-1 design adds more use cases with its tent mode, allowing you to post up and stream a movie over 5G if you want. I then stopped to have a Google Meet video call, type this review, and talk over Slack for 30 minutes. Photography by Cameron Faulkner / The Verge.
Another is "smooth skin mode" for beauty-style shooting, plus "movie IS mode" for vloggers that stabilizes any jolting movements like walking. For photography, it sports a physical mechanical shutter and can shoot bursts at up to 30 fps with autofocus in electronic shutter mode. RF 35mm f/1.4 and RF 50mm f/1.4
In this episode, Devindra chats with Cherlynn about her iPhone 16e review and try to figure out who this phone is actually for. Devindra: This week, it's the iPhone 16e, which Cherlynn has reviewed. And I checked out your review. The keyword for the iPhone 16e seems to be "compromise." Alexa+ seems useful, but can we trust it?
