My talk is a call to action to nonprofits to be more intentional and mindful in how they curate and consume content from social networks. I’ll be talking about the art and practice of good curation and also share some techniques for staying focused while doing working on social media for practitioners.

I just got back from the 2011 Nonprofit Technology Conference , where listening was top of mind: Listening to the amazing speakers, listening to the #nptech community , and listening to all the great ideas floating around the halls of the Washington Hilton.
The NTEN staff is consistently amazed at how fabulous our members are. But honestly, last Wednesday, on NTEN Give Thanks day, you really blew our minds. There was so much love floating around it silenced the NTEN office -- which is really hard to do! -- while we sifted through your posts and reflected on your greatness.

I have not been blogging because I've been at the NTEN NTC Conference , the premier event for nonprofit techies taking place in San Francisco. NTEN had also set up a google application that lets people vote on questions which how they decided to handle the Q/A in a room of 1400 people. You matter, if you matter.
NTEN''s Communities of Impact recently conducted a small survey (n=69) of nonprofit professionals asking how their organizations are engaging with data. With someone from the programs team, their minds might jump to program evaluation or assessments. How can we use it? What does it mean for our sector? And on and on.

Recently, I've been thinking about the launch of NTEN's newest resource: NTEN:Change, A Quarterly Journal for Nonprofit Leaders. We also wanted to make the journal interactive: like all of NTEN programming and resources, we wanted it to be a launching pad to connect you with peers, colleagues, and other resources in the community.
Designed with peer knowledge sharing in mind, CoP's aim to provide an established point of reference along with a network of support and resources. They are free for everyone, regardless of NTEN member status, and a great way to learn from other members of the community.
I owe most of that confidence to my association with NTEN over the years. You can get a lot out of NTEN without attending their annual conference, the NTC.
