Odds are your emails are going to spam folders and are in violation of email compliance laws that require opt-out information and a mailing address to be prominently featured in all email campaigns. Sending email newsletters via BCC should be avoided in all circumstances.

Ask your e-newsletter subscribers to follow you on your social media in every email, and conversely ask your social media followers to subscribe to your mailing list.

We’ve all received a fundraising appeal letter in the mail asking us to donate. You may have given money to some of these groups after receiving a request in the mail. Direct mail DOES work after all. However, statistics show that direct mail works. Make sure your mailing list is clean. Lots of people do.

We started mailing them in envelopes instead of flats last year. Our December newsletter is at the printers now to be mailed the day after election day. Since taking your classes and listening to your feedback, we made some significant changes in 2023 and 2024. We also made our articles shorter and easier to read.

When you receive a gift by check, you should print and mail a personalized letter of appreciation that serves as the receipt. Make sure the stat truly makes the case that your donor’s gift made a difference. And, make sure the stat makes sense. By the way, how you thank the donor depends on the way they gave.
