It is like sending a personal email to the entire listserv by mistake. While you are reading the chat, you can also click on each of the avatars and read their profiles. Also, at the end when I thought I was having a private IM with a colleague to set up a play date with my kids, it was broadcast to the entire group.

The profiles were the last thing added, when we were getting into the nature of the site itself. I'm a big advocate of the profile part, and want to see it used in other ways for members to contact each other. If I'm developing an exhibition, I may start at ExhibitFiles and then contact the person directly.

My second example is more personal and slightly embarrassing. Wikis don't explicitly acknowledge individuals with "profile power"--content is prioritized, not identity. You can do it physically at an in-person event like a conference. Woody launched it with an email to the ASTC listserv--a good group to target for his content.
