Last week, during the quarterly staff retreat, NTEN staff toured Free Geek. Several NTEN staff have been long-time supporters, and NTEN has always donated its old electronics to Free Geek. Free Geek is a technology reuse, recycle, and education nonprofit based in Portland, Oregon.

Thanks to a scholarship from NTEN, I was given the opportunity to fly to Sydney to attend the ConnectingUp! My mom suffered from polio and has dealt with her disability her whole life, so my personal history with polio made me even more passionate about the cause. And to the folks at ConnectingUp!, Lawrence College.

I have not been blogging because I've been at the NTEN NTC Conference , the premier event for nonprofit techies taking place in San Francisco. NTEN had also set up a google application that lets people vote on questions which how they decided to handle the Q/A in a room of 1400 people.

Last week, I was an instructor for NTEN’s Technology Leadership Academy for a session on Nonprofit Technology ROI Methods. I also used composite scenarios based on real-life nonprofits needing to apply ROI techniques to technology purchase decisions. It was delivered in two sessions.

I ended up at NTEN by accident. NTEN turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. Sometimes accidents change your life for the better; working at NTEN, with this amazing community, has changed my life for the best. I plan to remain an active and vibrant part of the NTEN community.
For example, my colleague Shai Coggins from Connecting Up (the Australian version of NTEN), who always brings me Tim-Tams. The Life Time Achievement award went to Rob Stuart, the godfather of the NpTech movement , who sadly passed away in October. After a wonderful video tribute, she said, “Thanks NTEN, you have my back!”
I look forward to the NTEN NTC (Nonprofit Technology Network's conference) every year. It's in Washington, DC March 17-19, although I'll be arriving in DC on the 16th for an NTEN Board Meeting. In fact, this year we have NTEN Organization membership so there will be four of us at the conference.

We are, of course, sad that it means the NTEN office hasn’t moved to Chicago to be with her. In her time at NTEN, Julia shared many lessons that we will continue to learn from and laugh about for years to come. She will continue to be an active NTEN Member, so it’s not goodbye! Just another day in the life for her!
