AMD continues to rip and tear — a familiar refrain for 2020’s laptops so far Dell’s G5 15 SE is focused. It’s not the best-looking gaming laptop or the fastest out there, but starting at $879.99, its AMD Ryzen processor and RX 5600M graphics chip make for a great tag team. This test proves that this processor rips and tears.
Asus is touting it as the world’s lightest 14-inch commercial laptop, and it is light. My test unit is 2.19 Asus says the keyboard has a lifespan of up to 10,000,000 keystrokes, per its durability testing. A problem with laptops this thin and light is that they sometimes feel flimsy. pounds, but models go as low as 1.91
A strong processor and fast SSD don’t make up for a weak GPU If you’re shopping for a gaming laptop, you’ll find good specs like Intel’s powerful 10th Gen six-core i7 H-series processor, a fast PCIe-based SSD, and a 120Hz refresh rate display in many of the costly, high-end models currently available. So, what’s the catch?
Unfortunately, for many who have been suddenly thrown into this situation, the best space they have to work is on a small laptop at a dining room table. If you’re used to working at a desk with a large monitor, having to do the same job on a laptop at a table can be frustratingly confining. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge.
It’s a quiet laptop, and even under pressure, its fans weren’t loud enough for me to hear once. These are important things for any laptop to get right, let alone one that has a bunch of extra real estate that should be used to avoid flaws like these. Lastly, the large trackpad isn’t always good at palm rejection.
But compared to many other laptops available today, it’s really heavy — it’s about five and a half pounds. Some folks might enjoy hefting a five-and-a-half-pound laptop around the house or in their backpack during the day. inches, the XPS 17 is smaller than many laptops in its class. It looks and feels like a very nice laptop.
OLED panels — which made a name for themselves in high-end TVs but are growing more popular in laptops as well — can deliver a stunning picture compared to IPS LCD displays. But all those pixels suck up a heck of a lot of battery, and companies sometimes slap them on laptops that can’t fully fill their power needs. It’s just 2.65
Microsoft rethinks what a creator-focused laptop should be and is mostly successful Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop Studio is both familiar and unique at the same time. If you don’t peer too closely, you’ll see what appears to be a standard, clamshell laptop. The Laptop Studio starts at $1,599.99 The screen is a 14.4-inch
A gaming laptop that doesn’t cut too many corners The Razer Blade Pro 17 is far from an Ultrabook. Like its smaller counterparts in the Blade line, the Pro 17 is chic and professional, lacking the bells and whistles you might expect to see on a large gaming laptop. Even among gaming laptops, that’s… well, not great.)
The leather looks and feels great, and Nomad has been pretty thoughtful about some of the details, like the hidden magnetic snaps that keep the case shut or the small cutout on the side that allows for accessing the USB-C ports for charging or docking your laptop while it’s still in the case. Photography by Chaim Gartenberg / The Verge.
Microsoft’s newest Surface Laptop brings better battery life and a better chip On paper, the Surface Laptop 4 is a Surface Laptop 3 with better chips. Sure, there are differences here and there: the Laptop 4 is ever-so-slightly thinner, and there’s a new “Ice Blue” color option. The big changes are on the inside.
That’s because the cameras on our laptops and desktops are not nearly as sophisticated as the broadcast equipment we are used to seeing on TV, nor is the lighting in your home or office. Before your presentation, take the time to record some video tests on the platform you are using with a few parts of your presentation. Shutterstock.
Perfection, for a price I have used a heck of a lot of laptops in the past year, and some of them are quite nice. But I’ve never touched a consumer laptop as gorgeous as the Spectre x360 14. as tested) the Spectre x360 is easily my new favorite 2-in-1 laptop. With a starting MSRP of $1,299.99 ($1,589.99
An unremarkable laptop with a remarkable chip AMD has started a laptop revolution. There’s no doubt about it: the Ryzen 4000 series has brought exceptional performance to midrange ultraportable laptops — performance that previously cost an arm and a leg. For evidence, just look to The Verge ’s Instagram account. “No
Some new specs aside, this laptop has changed very little since 2018 Razer’s Blade 15 Base isn’t broken necessarily, but it could use a tune-up anyway. The laptop’s all-aluminum build is still impressive to see and use. And yes, it has a webcam, unlike some of the gaming laptops we’ve reviewed recently.
We’ve got the best cheap laptop for you, no matter your budget. The best cheap laptops for video editing, gaming, and more If you’re shopping for the best cheap laptop of 2021, the question to ask is: what’s most important, and what are you willing to sacrifice? And with or without 5G, this isn’t a great laptop for $1,399 Lenovo’s Flex 5G has a lot to live up to as the world’s first 5G-enabled Windows 10 2-in-1 laptop. This is technically the world’s best 5G-ready laptop — only because there are currently no alternatives. No pressure. First, let’s start with 5G.
Functional but could be better This year, multiple companies primarily known for gaming laptops have been branching out into the portable business and productivity sector. I tested the more expensive configuration, which costs $1,249 and has a Core i7-1165G7 (one of Intel’s top 11th Gen processors), 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD.
Both keyboards are designed to do the same thing: turn your Surface device into a traditional clamshell laptop. And after testing both models for a couple of weeks with a Surface Pro 5 and a Surface Go 2, I can confirm they do exactly that. Photography by Dan Seifert / The Verge. Pro Plus and $139.99 Brydge 10.5
It’s faster than the IdeaPad Gaming 3, and as a result, it’s not as budget friendly Many companies use Intel or AMD’s yearly leap in processor generations as an opportunity to completely reinvent their laptops or desktops. Lenovo, pioneer of the 2-in-1 laptop concept, is good at making hinges.
I’m not here to tell you that they are the future of computing or will replace your laptop for getting work done. This is a tablet you buy to watch video and read things, not to try to replace your laptop. I’ve been testing Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A7 for the past few months and found that it is an excellent example of a cheap tablet.
Dual-screen gaming doesn’t come cheap Most of the time, if you’re reading a review of a dual-screen laptop, you probably only care about one feature: the two screens. It’s the first gaming laptop Asus has attempted with the dual-screen setup. The Duo I tested goes for — brace yourself — $3,699. My unit has a 15.6-inch
It gets toasty, but it’s a better all-around gaming laptop than previous iterations If you’ve seen one Razer Blade laptop in the past few years, you’ve essentially seen them all. At nearly the top of Razer’s configuration tree sits this $2,999 ($2,799 at the time of publishing) model that I’ve been testing for the last week.
The lens mount was originally designed for smartphones (where most of Moment’s focus has typically been), but Moment tells me it started targeting laptops in response to customer demand. The Moment Webcam Set , which I’ve been testing, is a $77.98 You secure the mount to a laptop with a screw on its back. Installation is simple.
The best laptop under $1,000 This year’s HP Envy x360 is a big deal. It’s easily the best laptop under $1,000 that you can buy right now. AMD processors have mostly been fodder for budget and midrange laptops for the past few years. pen, though there’s no place on the laptop itself to store it when not in use.
Its quad-core CPU and low-powered RTX 3070 are great for efficiency but not intensive tasks If it’s a thin gaming laptop you seek, Asus makes several, including last year’s excellent ROG Zephyrus G14 and the intriguing ROG Flow x13 2-in-1 that we recently reviewed. model with a slightly better processor is available now.
At its core, it’s a gaming laptop that plays games very well. Lenovo’s combo of a taller, high-resolution screen is what you’ll want in your next gaming laptop, even if you don’t know it yet. This laptop is full of other delights, like its TrueStrike keyboard.
Today, we’re looking at the XPS 13 9310, Dell’s best-in-class 13-inch ultraportable laptop. I tested a $1,649.99 It’s lustrous, sturdy, and just about the best build quality you’ll find in a laptop. percent screen-to-body ratio, which gives you more vertical space than most consumer laptops (which are 16:9).
A first look at the next trend in gaming laptops I had hoped that MSI’s GS66 Stealth for 2021 would look and feel a little different than last year’s model — not that the 2020 version was particularly busted in any major way. In fact, the previous model was a few nips and tucks shy of reaching Razer’s high bar for gaming laptop design.
In many ways, it’s already here — the free update has been available for Windows Insiders to download and test for months, and recent versions like the Release Preview will likely be indistinguishable from the final operating system. On a home-built desktop (Core i7-7700K, RTX 3060 Ti) and a 2017 Dell XPS 15 laptop (Core i7-7700HQ).
First, as Joanna Stern of the Wall Street Journal demonstrated , laptop webcams suck. For the past few years, computational photography has led to tremendous improvements when it comes to taking photos with your phone. The future of photography is code. There’s no way you’re going to look good with your computer.
For the past few days, I’ve been testing the ZenBook 14 UX425EA (specifically, the UX425EA-SH74). The UX425 is light for a 14-inch laptop at 2.49 percent less power than most laptop displays do. This is a clever idea (how often do you see a number pad on a 14-inch laptop?) The display reached 349 nits in our testing.
I tested a midrange model that currently costs $2,253. The touchscreen, made of Corning Gorilla Glass 6, has a 3840 x 2400 resolution, one of the highest resolutions you’ll find on a consumer laptop. It’s all a joy to use, and I’m dreading going back to a laptop with a 16:9 panel. It’s a world away from 16:9. The keycaps are 9.7
Remarkable tech for a steep price This laptop was a pain in the neck to review. That’s because the battery life is so gargantuan that our traditional rundown test was next to useless. And there’s also no wobble in the hinge when the laptop is in tablet or tent mode, which is sometimes an issue with thin-and-light convertibles.
Plenty of power, with plenty of tradeoffs Gigabyte has released a minor refresh to the Aero 15 OLED, its flagship laptop targeting gamers and creative professionals. The fans are also very, very loud on Gigabyte’s Turbo Mode — someone walking by while I was running a video export asked if the laptop was going to take off.
A top-notch convertible with a pricey sidecar If I saw the Asus ROG Flow X13 in the wild, I would never guess it was a gaming laptop. A 13-inch gaming laptop with those proportions isn’t unheard of, but it’s certainly unusual. It’s more than any number of excellent high-end gaming laptops cost. pounds and.62 62 inches thick.
A lightweight laptop with a sky-high price The Vaio Z is, speaking pragmatically, a proof of concept. Vaio says the Z is the first laptop to use contoured carbon fiber, though the 2012 Gigabyte X11 also claims an all-carbon fiber build.). pounds, the Vaio Z is the lightest laptop to include an Intel H-Series chip.
AMD helps bring OLED to the mainstream Seeing a laptop with an OLED screen at a sub-$1,000 price point is wild. But if there’s anyone I’d trust to make sub-$1,000 OLED happen, it’s Asus, one of the masters of affordable, portable laptops. My test system performs well, and the OLED screen is vivid and bright.
I’m picky about touchpads, but this one is quite roomy, with a smooth Gorilla Glass surface — I’d choose it over plenty of touchpads I’ve used on multi-thousand dollar Windows laptops. But the Spin 513 has a quite nice 1920 x 1080 screen, which is as good of a resolution as you’ll ever see on any laptop at this price.
With a starting price of $1,599 ($1,899 as tested), the 2021 GP66 Leopard takes the same top-end chips that are in the likes of MSI’s GE66 Raider and the Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 and puts them in a less exciting, more affordable chassis. That doesn’t mean this is the best-made laptop around. That’s dim, even for a mid-tier gaming laptop.
intriguing is the all-new ThinkPad X13s, which is the first laptop to feature the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 compute platform. This will be an interesting system to test, as we’ve seen mixed results from the battery life and performance of the 8cx Gen 2. Photography by Monica Chin / The Verge. Some news that’s a bit more.
The Strix G15 punches above its price I was skeptical of the ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition when I first got my test unit from AMD. I assumed that this gaming laptop would be fairly middle of the road, without many standout features to set it apart from the pack. Here, have a Strix. Well, the price range. to $1,699.99. Four-zone RGB.
A few corners have been cut, but the fact that they’re even worth mentioning is a testament to how excellent this laptop is. Holster the pitchforks — I know that’s not heavy in the grand scheme of laptops, but it’s noticeably heavier than the Galaxy and the Go.) I didn’t test those claims, but I’d believe it.
