Just three years ago, negotiators from around the world converged on Marrakesh, Morocco, to hash out a final deal. Today, the Marrakesh Treaty has been ratified by more than thirty countries, and went into international effect and law as of last year. It was highly controversial. And, the U.S. Senate just ratified the Treaty!

Italy’s data protection authority has just put out a timely reminder that some countries do have laws that already apply to cutting edge AI: it has ordered OpenAI to stop processing people’s data locally with immediate effect.
