Our hearts go out to the people of Japan. In 2005, that changed: when Hurricane Katrina hit, technology for disaster response made the leap from field workers to those affected.

Last month, the Japan earthquake and tsunami occurred on March 11th 2011, the first day of the conference. That morning, I saw the jaw-dropping photos and videos from the Japan tsunami disaster. Meanwhile, bloggers Leigh Duncan and Deb Ng were starting a grassroots effort to raise awareness and support for the Japan disaster too.
