This cohort was more successful than any other group in GlobalGiving history. between our Sierra Leone Mudslides appeal in August and our Harvey, Irma, and Mexico earthquake appeals in September. We had more than 600 nonprofits from 88 countries working hard to meet a $5,000 goal in our quarterly Accelerator program this month.

This puts New York City’s economic disparity on par with places like Sierra Leone or Namibia. Through our nation’s history, this light has served as a beacon to millions looking for a better life.

Each year we receive over 3,500 proposals from women's organizations all around the world. I remember a very wonderful woman from Sierra Leone, Sarandabba, saying to me, "You know in a war, women are raped, but Mother Earth is also raped. It is a good thing we are doing this in Women's History Month.
