Maybe it's a live music concert, or a museum visit, or a play. Sometimes these innovations are woven into the institutional core programming, as at the redesigned, highly interactive Oakland Museum of California. For myself personally, this gulf rears its head every time I go to a live music concert. You have a great time.

Michael Jackson had just died, and I was at the Experience Music Project in Seattle, where they hastily erected an exhibit of the jacket and glove he wore in the Thriller video. People lining the street on the Tuesday afternoon when the boards arrived from the Port of Oakland, cheering as the crates came off the truck.

Kathleen McLean (Independent Exhibitions), Dan Spock (Minnesota History Center), and Kris Morrissey (University of Washington) all shared thought-provoking and useful insights on visitor participation in museums, but Mark Allen and Emily Lacy brought down the house with their bluegrass rendering of the Machine Project and its engaging, quirky work.

Just from my understanding of history and my understanding of politics, the best way of actually being able to improve the living conditions of low income, oppressed people is for those people to come together and take their destinies into their own hands. SOUL is located here in the Bay area, in Oakland. That's one.

So the brief history is that Back to Earth was originated with a vision that Eric Fenster had when he was on a vision quest in the Owl's Head Mountains in. We started taking youth from inner cities, of places like Oakland and East Palo Alto, into the woods. a clearer picture of what we're doing now. near Death Valley, California.

The slogan is "Green Collar Jobs, not Jails" and what we're trying to promote a big vision which includes being able to employ formerly incarcerated people from the Oakland area, "at risk" -- quote unquote -- people from this area into jobs which don't hurt the environment, that actually help sustain us as a community.
