After the recent Nepal earthquake , the Canadian nonprofit, GlobalMedic , flew drones over the affected areas to create 3D maps of the worst-hit zones. In December 2013, drones from the NGO Direct Relief were put to work assessing damage and participating in search and rescue operations in the super typhoon Haiyan-stricken Philippines.
