Over the last 25 years I’ve been doing training, I’ve learned different and applied different methods from either being a “student” in a training facilitated by someone using a method, being trained in the method, co-designing with others, and designing and facilitating my own sessions. Over the past year, I've noticed a strange trend in the calls I receive about upcoming participatory museum projects: the majority of them are being planned for teen audiences. Why are teens over-represented in participatory projects? Teens are a known (and somewhat controllable) entity.

Dan was living in the Mission neighborhood, which at the time was very kid-dense, mostly first-generation immigrants, and Dan noticed that when he was messing around in his garage with physics gadgets, he could not keep the kids in his neighborhood out of his garage. The Exploratorium is great, but it wasn''t super-accessible.

the Exploratorium is a place high school/junior high students go on field trips and make snarky videos at their teachers' behest (source: YouTube ). I watched many entertaining shorts featuring students explaining exhibits to the beat of popular and illegally uploaded music. If I'm an engaged spectator in the groundswell--using Yelp!
