This is all set to happen at this week's New Organizing Institute (NOI)'s RootsCamp National 2012 unconference (Nov 30th and Dec 1st, here in D.C.) -- a mecca of sorts for the organizer faithful. The sessions, although seemingly organized on the fly in the unconference style, were very thoughtful and informative.

Conference , especially the “ unconference sessions “ in Washington, DC on Friday. It’s a mix of serious and fun content. When not in a disaster, you might see LOLcats doing CPR. I participated in two unconference sessions. I don’t often get a chance to listen and learn. They had social content.
We had a lot of fun with the Ustream live stream and Twitter chat where we discussed the themes from the book and answer questions. unconference on Friday morning in Washington, DC. Now, if you haven't experienced the NTC yet, simply hearing that it's "the biggest, most fun nonprofit technology event of the year" probably won't convince you (even though it's true). We even crowdsourced the social scene this year, asking attendees what they wanted to do for fun in the evenings. That's a lot o' learning!
Virtual Conference (aka UnConference). Host a virtual conference event aka an Unconference. Unrelated speaker: Have a standup comedian, yoga instructor, mindfulness coach, etc join for a fun activity. Similar to the unconference, you could bring musicians together to host a concert or mini-festival benefitting your organization.
Open Space and Unconference Facilitation. Some formats are playful and incorporate informality, movement, and fun. Innovation / Generating New Ideas. Making Decisions and Getting Consensus. Strategic Dialogue. Organizational Development. Networked Facilitation. Community Organizing. Participatory Gatherings. Any many more.
The event also included plenary speakers, including a provocative talk about data methods from Alexandra Samuels and cross-track sessions from traditional panels to unconference. The culmination of these two and half very intense days was an Idea Accelerator Lab.
A couple weeks ago I asked you and the Have Fun * Do Good Facebook group for suggestions for Changebloggers, people who are using their blog, podcast or vlog to raise awareness, build community, and/or facilitate readers/listeners/viewers' taking action to make the world a better place. A conference or unconference?
Day 1 of the conference saw 122 attendees volunteer to help 58 organizations during the Day of Service , while 50 of you attended the Open Data Unconference and 139 went to We Are Media Sessions. Lastly, we tried something new this year with a QR code NTC scavenger hunt, which the NTEN staff thought would be super fun.
The surgeries are ridiculous fun for the organizers, and offer real tangible support to organizations still struggling with integrating the social web into their work. The most recent one was Social Media September. In the coming months Net2Local will also be participating in the Digital Storytelling Challenge and more social media surgeries.

We had some good laughs remembering the fun we had at the 09NTC. Unconference: You want to learn more from your colleagues, have a chance to play with the latest ideas that we haven't included in the conference agenda, and have more chances than the pre-planned Affinity Groups to connect.
