With Earth Day coming up, lots of green projects are launching this month, including the Sundance Channel's, The Green, a block of weekly programming devoted to the environment. I saw Majora Carter speak last May at a Solutions Salon put on by the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights in Oakland. She was amazing. Go Sundance!

Carl Sagan One of the items on my Fun-Do List for Thanksgiving was to try some new recipes, and boy, did I! Mixed Greens with Green Apples, Beets and Pistachios from Vegan Holiday Kitchen. I ended up buying fresh Roasted Butternut and Chestnut Ravioli in Pumpkin Pasta from Market Hall in Oakland. I liked this salad.
Our second tea tasting stop was the Numi Tea Garden in Oakland. Numi Tea is an environmentally and socially responsible tea company based in Oakland (but you can buy their tea nationally). Our two weekends of tea tasting adventures were fun, and got me excited to find other local tea houses locally, and when we travel.

One of the things for me, in going to protests and demonstrations about different issues, is that I felt that the protests were really boring, dry and preachy, not fun and compelling. And as Britt said, I also am the Art and Media Director at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights , which is based out of Oakland. That's great.
When I went to see Van Jones speak for the first time at the Green Festival in November 2002 about, "Green Jobs, Not Packed Jails," people in the States were just starting to lift their heads up from a year of fear and despair after September 11th. Our question is, will this green wave lift all boats? How do we make sure?
The slogan is "Green Collar Jobs, not Jails" and what we're trying to promote a big vision which includes being able to employ formerly incarcerated people from the Oakland area, "at risk" -- quote unquote -- people from this area into jobs which don't hurt the environment, that actually help sustain us as a community.
