While an entrepreneur-in-residence at Kleiner Perkins, Nguyen interviewed hundreds of small business owners and realized that many pay hundreds of dollars in fees to maintain a business checking account. After his last startup, Framed Data, was acquired by Square , Thomson Nguyen began exploring new ideas.
Before Minerva was officially founded, Dawood and Rathnayake took part in a National Science Foundation (NSF) program designed to help universities with entrepreneurship programs. and interviewing over 200 potential customers, everybody from CEOs to operators in the field, in order to learn how to get product-market fit.
I was co-author of a recently completed research study [ PDF ] funded by the National Science Foundation, the Bilingual Exhibit Research Initiative (BERI), which strove to better understand bilingual labels from the visitor perspective.
