Yet, while the socialnetworks hold tremendous benefit for nonprofits that successfully engage their stakeholders, there are also dangers.

According to a study by Blackbaud , NTEN and Common Knowledge, over 92% of nonprofit organizations have a presence on at least one socialnetworking site, but most raise very little money through their social activity. Social media adoption by budget.

I decided to try out facebook when I kept hearing about the integration of other socialnetworking sites into facebook. I’m still not convinced by any of these socialnetwork sites not directly linked to content (unlike del.icio.us or flickr) – but it’s fun to play with, anyway.

But, if an organization simply cuts and pastes a social media policy without the internal culture change, it won't be effective. with "just for fun."

Tip(s): Always make sure your online communications materials (such as eNewsletters) can be shared via social media easily. Make sure to cross-post to multiple socialnetworks if you are sending out communications about an important subject. Doing this effectively ensures more active and connected users. Empower visitors.
