Last year when Myspace announced that it would be launching a redesign, I was very intrigued. Even more so when they released a video last September teasing what the new Myspace would look like. For months I was anxious, excited even, for the new Myspace to launch. To me, this a colossal, baffling mistake on the part of Myspace.
The retro social network, which claims no direct affiliation to MySpace, says it is focused on privacy and customization. Feeds on the site are presented in chronological order with “no suggested content begging. SpaceHey launched in November 2020 as a nostalgia project. There are no algorithms and no personalized ads.
If it is the later, then the Status Updates of the Nonprofit Organizations Facebook Page will no longer show up in the News Feeds. I know this because I have spoken with a couple of Facebook Admins over the last six weeks who could not get their Pages authenticated, and thus lost the ability to publish Status Updates to the News Feeds.
So, again, whatever your personal feelings are about Facebook, its fundraising tools are increasing in power and frankly, since nonprofits first began using Myspace in 2005, Facebook Fundraising Tools are the best collection of tools that any social network has ever created for the nonprofit sector.
Recently both LinkedIn and Facebook dropped their integration with Twitter indicative of a trend – a maturing of the Social Web, if you will – where automated tweets or updates are generally frowned upon as they tend to be formatted poorly, lack authenticity, and clutter News Feeds on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
In 2008, many of the friends of the Nonprofit Organizations MySpace migrated over to Facebook, then in 2009 and 2010 a good number of the new fans came from @NonprofitOrgs on Twitter. I would have been incredibly annoyed if at 10,000 fans the Page would have lost News Feed exposure. and in the News Feed of your Fans.
For the past six years I have spent 50 to 60 hours a week utilizing Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, MySpace, LinkedIn, and Foursquare to promote nonprofits. People either start ignoring your updates because you’re always in their news feed, or they “hide&# you altogether. Not following on a 1:1 ratio on Twitter.
Nothing kills an online community faster than spam (think Myspace ) and LinkedIn Groups have plenty of it. The New LinkedIn News Feed Has Arrived. That said, a 40,000 strong spam-free LinkedIn Group is a powerful thing for both the group admin and those members who take the time to post and participate on a regular basis.

OpenSocial is a set of APIs that handle three different kinds of user data: profiles, social graph (who your friends are) and activities (the stuff of the Facebook news feeds.) Update: MySpace, SixApart (LiveJournal, Typepad and the newish social networking blog platform Vox), and Bebo have now all joined OpenSocial.
