Earlier this month, Candid released a new version of its taxonomy, the Philanthropy Classification System (PCS). What are the benefits of Candid’s updated taxonomy? New organization types will facilitate more nuanced analyses of funding and other trends. What does it take to update Candid’s taxonomy?
The design lab was facilitated by Pete Maher, founder of Luma Institute. I learned so much about the taxonomy of innovation and really practical techniques, that I took the facilitation training. I started incorporating facilitating design labs as well as the techniques into my training practice ever since.
Last month I had the pleasure of taking the Luma Institute Train the Trainers workshop where I got a chance to immerse in practicing facilitation techniques based on human centered design principles. The workshop instructor Peter Maher is founder and CEO, of Luma Institute , and a Jedi Master. Facilitation'
The product is a diagram or a series of diagrams like the one above for a large nonprofit facilitated by Steve Heye that outlines the steps. Owyang’s post points to some terrific examples including a diagram from Socialfish helped facilitate for ASCE and the class diagram from the Airforce. Image from Steve Heye.
The TCC Group is facilitating a “learn in public&# process by sharing early research findings related to 1300 capacity building grants. There has been an interesting discussion on the wiki and blogs about strategy for public learning.
Is that a formalized taxonomy or not? There is a usefulness for a formal taxonomy or making it easy to find specific items, particularly for second wave adopters who may not be good at pattern analysis skills or people who can deal with messier data.
Obviously, it ain't no taxonomy and it shouldn't substitute for one. What if we thought of the NPTech Tag as a way to aggregate and facilitate a more focused distributed conversation and the summary is, well, a summary. I'm also remembering some previous obsession about cross-blog conversations and how to facilitate.
TechSoup Global is building NGOSource , an online data repository to facilitate the sometimes costly business of getting grants to overseas charities. To cite just two interesting efforts: STRIVE is layering the use of robust data platforms on to local community organizing and social service delivery in Cincinnati and other cities.
In these engagements, we have relied on our mantra, "people first, technology second," encouraging our clients to focus their energy on providing useful content, facilitating sharing, and connecting people, and to avoid a disproportionate focus on technology questions. This hasn't changed.
People are open sourcing their metrics, and building taxonomy. To get the market from niche to mainstream people are working on taxonomy, metrics and peer and trend ratings. The taxonomy of social and environmental terms enables the aggregation of data from different providers and multiple data collection systems. “ .
Candid uses machine learning to automatically tag new grants, request for proposals (RFPs), and mission statements to our Philanthropy Classification System (PCS) taxonomy—or our way of organizing and enriching data to make it usable. Facilitating intelligent funding connections (coming soon.)
How does one "facilitate" a community tagging project, if that can be done at all? What is some of our thinking related to the NpTech Tag and folksonomies, taxonomies, and social search? What are some the "best practices" and what are some of the pitfalls?
Marnie Webb is facilitating. It started right when these sites had just started, and it arose from the need to develop a nonprofit technology taxonomy. I just noticed a session at the Nonprofit Software Developers Summit that is probably happening right now. Here's the description (notes here ?) The NPTech tag is used on del.icio.us
By facilitating a common understanding of standards as inputs are generated and reviewed, organizations have greater control early on, whatever their needs. Toward this end, Claravine provides a dashboard where companies can build taxonomies using descriptions, lists, values, and referenceable fields.
Now go forth and facilitate knowledge sharing! Anyway, you already asked yourself what roles were needed when you did your strategic evaluation, right? Further reading: http :// www. org / blog /2007/03/20/ nptech - tagging - community.
There are also broader metaverse-related taxonomies like one from game designer Raph Koster , who draws a distinction between “online worlds,” “multiverses,” and “metaverses.” To Koster, online worlds are digital spaces — from rich 3D environments to text-based ones — focused on one main theme.
The content committee will facilitate a card-sorting exercise at our upcoming all-staff retreat. Have a taxonomy horror story? 3) Content—this committee is both backwards-looking (performing an audit of our current content) and forward-looking (sculpting a new content strategy). How do you see us addressing all of this, and by when?
Natalye also talks about the role of technology in facilitating and tracking the impact of volunteers, and how Points of Light and Blackbaud are collaborating to advance data, insights and measurement for volunteerism. The role of technology in facilitating volunteerism, tracking data and measuring impact.
Forum One helped simplify the site’s content strategy and taxonomy to focus on new Topics and Programs pages that centralize related resources, simplifying the experience of navigating to help both groups quickly and easily find the information they need. The good news is that a content strategy doesn’t have to be a heavy lift!
The fields—type_of_issue, expectation, and constraint_violated—serve to elucidate the nature of the error, facilitating understanding during investigations or reviews. For computing the dirtiness score, the critical elements are the locations of the errors and the associated confidence scores. Stay tuned then!
I just finished a presentation and later this afternoon will facilitate a workshop on strategy which will include the Romanian version of the Social Media Game. Described the difference between taxonomy and folksonomy. I'm live blogging the conference sessions which are being conducted in Romanian. Conclusion.

A conversational panel or keynote does some blending of learning modalities – it includes some content-delivery and structured small group and full group conversations. There is a lead facilitator – in the panel or keynote model – it’s the Oprah with the mic. How did that relate to the learning objectives?
