This is part of series of reflections on what I've learned about working wikily through working on NTEN's WeAreMedia wiki - not so much the content, but the community curriculum development and knowledge sharing process. Just as in the offline world, people are more likely to do something when personally invited. Here are a few best practices for facilitating personal messages between members. Facilitate in-network responses. Make sure that your software's private messages facilitate a private response within the community itself.

Doug mentioned attending the NTC/NTEN conference in New Orleans and had RSS and Tagging ringing in his ears. There are offline ways to do it. Their project will have a way to facilitate online communication between people with disabilities and able-bodied peers using existing social networking utilities - ChiPs and MentorNet.
