Things are slowing down during the holidays , so here's a short version of the NpTech Tag Summary. The PeaFund Friday Campaign PeaFund Friday is an amazing example of the power of social media for social change. But looks that they are catching up, check out Burleigh Mountain's Channel , for example.
I also stumbled across her more recent post about NpTech Mashups. So, let's unleash the NpTech Mashup Meme. This happens all the time on listservs where people who work on integrating technology into their work participate -- whether it be teachers, librarians, community of practice, online facilitators, nonprofit techies, etc.
Net2 Houston, August Photo by Eschipul Nonprofits in Second Life Gala Opening Photo by RubyJi By looking at the photos tagged with NpTech, nonprofit techies were either on vacation or attending events. Two nptech events were visible in the NpTech tag stream, the Nonprofit Commons in Second Life Launch Party and the Net2 meetup in Houston.
Most NpTech blogs are high school level. The Wild Apricot Blog has published a nice list of ten examples of how nonprofits can use Facebook. leading to an impassioned request for best practices for minimizing damage when this security breaches occur on several listservs. So, I have no idea why this page was tagged with NpTech.
Steve and others, just when I thought there was a lull in our conversation about blog communities and blog cross conversations, I noticed this thread on the Digital Divide List (btw, the digital divide network is another example of a community blog). Technorati Tags: digital_divide , blogging_communities , net2 , nptech
Ask on listservs ( ProgEx , NTEN Affinity Groups , ISF Yahoo group , etc.) This is not the time for jargon -- save that for talking to your developers (or your NTEN listserv buds). For example, Simone works for an evaluation organization. Start thinking about success stories that you can share with your organization.
For example, my family can???t s why I started a listserv to help people from Cambodia to learn how to do it. Technorati Tags: cambodia nptech Phone calls are expensive and if they're lucky they can exchange email. But the vlog is almost like being face-to-face and great way to connect back to your culture. t view my vlog ???
The nptech tag stream (plus other sources) has been imported, so you can comment and vote on tagged items. And, if you want to see some excellent nonprofit examples of video, be sure to check out the entries in the NTC Video Contest. Maybe we need an NPtech History Archive ? The MobileActive listserv is a good one for phone-based app's. For example, LINGOs has a free nonprofit learning catalog. The GE Crotonville Center is the legendary example An easy "ask" for your local corporations is: can I get a donated seat in your classroom? Pick one that fits your size and mission, and addresses technology.
They should belong to listservs, comment on community bulletin boards. Well, I think the nonprofits that open their blogs up to tell the stories of their constituency -- the March of Dimes blog for example -- are inherently dramatic. Paying attention and contributing to listservs is a part of my job.
The most well-known example is Wikipedia , a user-generated encyclopedia which boasts over 6 million entries written and edited by about 30,000 volunteer participants. My second example is more personal and slightly embarrassing. Do these examples mean you should never use wikis? Here are two cases with related examples.
