It took Tech Networks of Networks almost two years to organize and implement a series of candid dialogues about data and evaluation for grantors and nonprofit grantees, and now it’s complete. Factoring in the nonprofit organization’s size, capacity, and budget – making sure that the demand for data and evaluation is commensurate.

Instead of writing a post and soliciting comments (my typical approach), I used an online polling tool to create a simple game where you could read short provocations about questionable revenue sources and give each source an ethical thumbs-up or down. On platforms with many participatory options, more people are more active.

We each have experience running participatory grantmaking and decision-making processes online using different platforms. It’s time for nonprofits and foundations to upgrade our digital decision-making tools.
