Why Online Donors are Worth More than Offline Donors [INFOGRAPHIC]

NetWits

A few months ago we published the 2011 donorCentrics Internet and Multichannel Giving Benchmarking Report and yesterday we released the 2011 Online Giving Report. The research in these reports is extensive and well worth the read if you’re into all things fundraising, but I’d like to focus your attention on one piece of the findings for now.

Social Media for Social Good :: Your Nonprofit Tech Checklist

Nonprofit Tech for Good

At the end of the Social Media for Social Good: A How-To Guide for Nonprofits is a nine-page “Nonprofit Tech Checklist” which I have copied and pasted below. Each item on the list is discussed in the book and some items won’t make sense unless you have read the book, but most will. I hope you find it useful. That was my number one priority when writing the book… to create a comprehensive, useful social and mobile media how-to guide for nonprofits.

DIY Social Media Management

Amy Sample Ward

Yesterday, I had a lot of fun giving another webinar for Nonprofit Webinars, this time focused on DIY Social Media Management. There are so many tools out there and so many different options pulling us in so many directions that I’ve found many organizations, especially very small organizers, can feel like they are getting tied up in knots. The goal of this webinar was to provide some baseline tools to help manage the incoming and the outgoing content across all channels an organization ma

What I'll be doing for Lent

Zen and the Art of Nonprofit Technology

Over the past few years, I have had an interesting relationship to Lent. As a Unitarian Considering Christ (or, as my spiritual co-conspirator Joellynn Monahan says "Universalist Chillin' with Christ",) Lent has never been about penitence. Growing up Protestant, and even in my brief flirtation with fundamentalism in my early adulthood, I never paid attention to it - I thought it was a Catholic thing.

11 Must-Follow Nonprofits on Pinterest

Nonprofit Tech for Good

With 10.4 million registered users, Pinterest hit the 10 million-user benchmark last week making it the fastest growing website ever. My theory on why Pinterest has become so popular so fast is that it has arrived at at time when people are increasing becoming overwhelmed by the volume of tweets, status updates, and “Breaking News!” being thrown at them 24/7.

See, Say, Feel, Do: Metrics for Social Media

Amy Sample Ward

I am a big fan of actionable metrics. In all of my presentations and webinars about social media tracking, measurement, and engagement, I highlight the value of and need for what I call “actionable metrics”, meaning the data we capture and track that actually gives us insight and the opportunity to improve or change the way we use various platforms and the kinds of content we create and share.

Reverse Engineering the Nissan Leaf's Range Display

Beneblog: Technology Meets Society

Geeks are textbook early adopters. We can't resist a new gadget, or pushing the envelope to find out what's really possible! I'm no exception to this rule. Recently, our family took delivery of a new Nissan Leaf, a completely electric vehicle. I now breeze by gas stations with $4 per gallon prices and think how I'll never pull into one of these places and spend dozens of dollars to fill up.

World Map of Social Media

NCE Social Media

I recently came across a world map of social media on the Vincos Blog. I really enjoy their post because it shows you the gradual change in social networks in different parts of the world. Only three years ago you can see that there are many different social networks dominating in different countries. As social networks have matured and the weaker networks have faded away, you can see what is left.

Pinterest or Delicious: Social Bookmarking Coming back as Digital Curation

Amy Sample Ward

Lately, we’ve watched as images – from photos to infographics – have taken over the web. As photos take over Facebook newsfeeds and Pinterest explodes, I see so many people trying to accomodate an image-centric process into their digital curation. Have I lost you yet with all the buzz words and slang? Stick with me. My point is, for nonprofits at least, not every story has an image; sometimes what is incredible is the larger story we pull together or the context and annotation

Crypto is Not Broken

Beneblog: Technology Meets Society

By Patrick Ball On 14 February 2012, the New York Times reported that a Swiss team had found a weakness in a key algorithm used to make secure connections online. We were worried because the algorithm (called RSA) is also a central part of Martus , our self-encrypting database that backs itself up to a network of servers. The bottom line: We've consulted with cryptographers and studied the Martus code, and we do not believe that there is a weakness affecting Martus users.
