Google Checkout No Longer Free for Nonprofits

Robert Weiner

Google has been offering free donation processing to nonprofits for the past couple of years through Google Checkout. That free service will end on March 1 except for U.S.-based nonprofits that receive Google Grants. Other nonprofits will pay 2% + $0.20 per transaction (but at least there won’t be any monthly, setup, or gateway service fees like others have to pay).

What? She’s talking about Blackbaud? Yes, it might be surprising, but I got a friendly email from fellow NTEN Board Member Steve McLaughlin, who also happens to be head of all things internet (more formally, Director, Internet Solutions) at Blackbaud. He gave me a demo and overview of their NetCommunity tool, which has been around for a while, and I figured it deserved a blog entry.

Adobe: Beta is not an excuse

Judi Sohn

I’m getting a little tired of companies that should know better using the word “beta&# to mean “we’re not responsible.&#. Google, take the silly “beta&# off of Gmail already. And Adobe, this rant’s for you. I was very excited when Adobe introduced Acrobat.com. I don’t care about the buzzword word processor. What I wanted was a better way to do shared comment reviews from Acrobat desktop software.

Using Humiliation to Fundraise

Fun and humor, used in the right way and in the appropriate context, can help boost your social fundraising campaign. A personal challenge typically issued as statement like "if we make our goal, I'll do or donate xyz" can also energize your campaign. I did this for my recent birthday campaign , using the Facebook Causes matching challenge that if our cause raised $5,200, I'd donate ten times my age or $520.
