Many of us will purchase hundreds of dollars in holiday gifts over the next six weeks, and with some conscious consumerism those dollars could also help some of your favorite nonprofits continue their work in 2012. Now in it’s third year (View the 2009 Edition and 2010 Edition ), the 11 holiday gift programs listed below benefit nonprofits and thus help make the world a better place: 1. 10,000 Villages Online Store: One of the world’s largest fair trade organizations and a foundin
Benetech, is a leading nonprofit organization based in Silicon Valley. We write software for people with disabilities as well as human rights and environmental groups. So, we shouldn’t have anything to fear from a bill entitled “Stop Online Piracy Act,” right?
Last week, I had the opportunity to run a webinar on Nonprofit Webinars. I had thought to myself that there wouldn’t be anyone registered because it wasn’t a very buzzy topic. I was presenting on the way we can identify metrics in social media that help us reach our mission and how to use those metrics strategically. No “make money on social media” or “top 5 Twitter tips” I was so thrilled, then, to see a couple hundred registered!

Year-end fundraising is here. This is the time of year that your organization should be raising up to 40% of its donations online. Yes, that’s right – up to 40% of donations come in at the end of the year for many nonprofits that have a solid year-end fundraising plan in place and an engaged li

This one caught my eye for a second. I thought, "I don't remember booking anything with American lately." The lazy spammer didn't even bother to include any graphics to make it look official. As many know, knitting is “my thing.” When I’m stressed I can knit something in my head and it relaxes me. I can stare a picture of beautiful yarn the way a foodie would study a picture in Gourmet Magazine. I know, it’s strange. Only my fellow fiberaholics can understand. I knit on and off through college and after I got married.
For about a year, I moderated a monthly online chat focused on community building, community management, on and offline engagement, and the technologies that support those connections. The chat used the #CommBuild hashtag to pull regular and new participants together on Twitter and elsewhere, though we found that having the chats take place on a platform like CoverItLive helped people jump in and follow the conversation and create instant archives people could share and review asynchronously.
End-of-year is a very busy time for fundraisers. Lots of ideas are bouncing around, campaigns that have been run for years are spinning up, and new end-of-year fundraising campaigns are coming to life. Many will eventually be pushed out the door with the hope of great results. (free 50 minute webinar recording at bottom of post). Competition. A huge portion of fundraising revenue comes in during the last two months of the year, which means those who are hoping for great results will get exactly
Payroll compliance is a cornerstone of business success, yet for small and midsize businesses, it’s becoming increasingly challenging to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of federal, state, and local regulations. Mistakes can lead to costly penalties and operational disruptions, making it essential to adopt advanced solutions that ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Like the American Airlines spam , this one didn't bother to include any graphics to make it look official. Further, it shows plainly that the link goes to www.usps.com.ww062.com (note that the domain is ww062.com). Some scammers are just lazy. Sender: auto-notify@usps.com. Subject: Delivery Confirmation. Originally published in the November 2011 issue of Fundraising Success Magazine where I have written a quarterly column throughout 2011. In June 2007, I presented my first social media training to a small group of nonprofits in Lowell, MA. At the time, nonprofits were primarily only using Myspace and YouTube. Though Facebook had gone public nine months previous, Facebook Groups were only just beginning to be used as community-building tools by nonprofits and Facebook Pages didn’t exist yet
A little over 3 months ago, I gave up my iPhone 3GS and replaced it with a Samsung Infuse 4G running Android OS. I knew it was a bit of a leap, and I knew that if I hated it I could always go back to iOS when I was eligible for an upgrade again in early 2013. Android is going to be a great mobile operating system. It’s improving all the time, and Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) looks promising.

Ever buy something that’s “one size fits all?” Maybe a hat or pair of gloves? It usually doesn’t work out so well. The same is true with your holiday email appeals. While nonprofits often deliver highly relevant content in direct mail appeals – based on giving history, interests and past actions – that approach isn’t always carried over to their email appeals.
I’m thinking a great deal these days about human rights and about doing more for the field. Today, I gave a presentation on human rights in DC, with a focus on our work with truth commissions. I recently spoke at the Silicon Valley Human Rights Conference , where I talked about technology for human rights defenders. Our human rights team is expanding and taking on new and exciting challenges.

My daughter turned 13 this past summer and we just celebrated her Bat Mitzvah last month. On her actual birthday, her Father and I gave her an iPad 2 to mark this milestone year (we don’t normally give huge birthday presents like that). A few weeks after 8th grade began in September, she asked if she could start bringing it to school. My first reaction was “hell to the no!
Research show’s that the level of giving in the United States has remained static over the past 40 years. Staggering, I know. With that in mind 35 influential leaders from across the nonprofit industry came together at the Growing Philanthropy Summit to develop an action-oriented agenda on growing philanthropy. Their mission: grow giving! Adrian Sargeant and Dr.

Across the nonprofit sector, organizations invest heavily in donor retention efforts, yet the struggle of cultivating lasting relationships remains. While attracting new donors is crucial, the lack of repeat donors poses significant financial risks. Through a comprehensive analysis of industry data, experts argue that there is a direct correlation between donor burnout, donor retention, and the talent retention crisis.
Guest Beneblog by Megan Price New York City has many attractions – people often visit Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, among many other sights. Me? I go to New York City to spend the weekend staring at my computer screen. I joined Google+ a few months ago as an individual, but it hasn’t been until the recent launch of Google+ Pages that I began investing time in the exploring the Google+ community and tool set. Google+ is a bit more complicated than Facebook or Twitter, but already a significant source of traffic to this blog, and like most communities that get a lot of initial buzz, the growth rate of new followers is exponentially much faster during the early adoption phase.
