Approximately 71% of those donations came from individuals. Individuals gave 71% of all the charitable giving in 2015 and their donations grew by 3.8% and donations by corporations grew by 3.9%. These donations were up 2.1% This is in large part to the tremendous amount of giving towards the Nepal Earthquake in 2015.

And if you think about this pie chart, what I really want to call out is that bequests, which are about 9%, are gifts made by individuals. 39% of donors support a nonprofit by volunteering before they make a donation. And so of this 471 billion individuals gave $324 billion in 2020, which is about 69% of total giving.
